RB Options 2013

We already know going into this year or next we're going to have (God forbid) Sanchez, or a Rookie/inexperienced QB. I think it's safe to say Greene will be packing his bags this year and we will have Powell and McKnight in the back field. I like both of these guys and I think they are terrific situational players. The problem is they have a good combined skillset, yet individually I would be worried about either of them with a 20+ carry workload.

Powell is a solid runner, decent burst, little bit of a wiggle, good between the tackles runner but lacks that lean-forward-for-a-few-more-yards sort of physicality. Without that real break-away speed or an elusive make you miss capability, he suffers as a back who might have to help carry the offensive workload.
McNight on the other hand is almost the exact oposite of Powell. We all know he has the breakaway speed and elusive moves, but what about running between the tackles? He hasn't had enough of a workload to really see if he can do it, but his size and style of running tends to lean towards not being able to. Just like Powell neither has the ability to really drive a pile or fall forward for extra yardage.

I personally like the combination between these two better than I do just running the lackluster Shonn Greene 30x a game. Greene does have that ability to finish a run and sometimes make people pay, but at the same time he's not a true bruiser, shedding tackles (i.e. Steven Jackson) type of back either.

2013 NFL DRAFT PROSPECTS

(Personally I wouldn't draft a RB in the first round this year)
2nd round targets:

1) - Giovani Bernard, 5'10" 205lbs _ UNC
2) - Eddie Lacy, 6'0 220lbs _ Bama

(At this point I would rather wait till the 4th or later, but if I had to pick...)
3rd round targets:

3) - Stepfan Taylor, 5'11" 208lbs _ Stan

4th round targets:

4) - Le'Veon Bell, 6'2" 238lbs _ MSU

(I would now wait till the 6th or later round and take a flyer pick)
6th round+ targets:

5) - Marcus Lattimore, 6'0 218lbs _ SC

To me I think the Lattimore pick (if we were to make it) could be the most interesting. Had this guy stayed healthy I have no doubt he would have been the #1 RB in this years draft, the guy has unbelievable talent, he can do it all.
Also, it's not like the guy is injury prone, he's just had two freak accidents. Now I say all this with the caveat that he is progressing in his rehab and looks like he can fully recover. This type of pick would also mean that he probably will be placed on IR for most of the season. Which wouldn't bother me anyways unless we get a QB this year that can produce, because I look at it like we're playing for 2014 anyways *cough cough* "Teddy Bridgewater" (< trade and deal picks to set us up to do this!).

Montee Ball is the best back in this draft. He has the best vision I have seen in a back since Barry Sanders. Don't know why you haven't even mentioned him.

I think Lacy is going to be the best back from this draft. I would lovehim here but i think his best fit will be ATL.

I wouldn't bring Greene back for the money he'll likely want...

Bernard, Lacy or Taylor would each be good choices in the 2nd or 3rd round.

I like Lattimore a lot Powell can hold his own until LAttimore is ready and maybe Powell will show how good he is for some good trade value

After lookin at stats and multiple highlights I wud lean more towards the MSU back Bell. Extremely impressive. Montee runs too high, bad idea in the nfl.

Reggie Bush is a free agent, and is the best option at RB for the West Coast Offense.

I would love to see Lattimore drafted, regardless if he spends most of next season on IR. To get him in the 4th or better would be a steal. Guy was great at SC. I have little to no expectations for next year, so I would rather see Idzik start putting pieces together for the future and not worry about next year's success.

Christine Michael: Texas A&M. He will fit in well with MM offense, his style fits the zone blocking scheme the Jets will use next year.

I saw some videos on YouTube and I'm really impressed.

Gio Bernard would be our LeSean McCoy in Mornhinweg's offense. He as everything a back needs to be successful for this type of offense- vision, instincts, burst, agility, ability to read blocks and also catch the ball. IMO, he would be the best fit out of anyone in this draft for our offense. If he fell to our 2nd round pick that would be a blessing.

After Bernard, I have Eddie Lacy and Jawan Jamison. Lacy may not be the ideal fit, but he's a stud at RB. He might be the best actual runner in the class. His hands need work but he is also very good at pass blocking. Jamison is someone that no one here has ever talked about, besides JTJ, and Im not sure why. He played with an injured ankle for the latter portion of the season, so his numbers arent stellar, but he is easily one of the most talented backs in the draft. He's very similar to Bernard in almost every aspect... I would definitely check him out. He has a very high ceiling.

Then I think there's a cluster of some very good backs in the 3rd to 4th round range- Stepfan Taylor, Mike Gillislee, Leveon Bell, Montee Ball, Christine Michael, Joseph Randle, Jonathan Franklin and Barner. Dennis Johnson is also a very good RB thats built and runs similarly to Doug Martin and could be a sleeper.

This class seems to have a lot of depth at this position. I think about 4 or 5 may become starters in this league while the rest can be very good role players.

Thats a pretty big statement there. I dont really agree with that in any sense. Montee Ball is good, but he's not the best RB in this class and doesnt even have the best vision in this class.

I also dont think he's a very good fit in the WCO. He seems like a RB that picks up most of his yardage in-between the tackles, kind of like a Frank Gore. IMO, that would be a better fit in a man blocking scheme rather than a zone scheme MM runs. Bernard is a much better fit for this offense.

Just watched it his Vision is amazing he finds holes and cuts so fast compared to our backfield. I really like CM kid could be something

I think he's very good and has great burst. I just wish that he ran with more power. He's built very well but sometimes I feel like he doesnt use that size to his advantage and he runs more like a finesse back.

He is built very well, I like the combination of a Power running Powell and Christine Michael could be exciting to watch. Gio hits holes well too also great vision he is a 5'10 speed demon. I wanna know his 40 time. These 2 will be in the Senior bowl today right ?

Yes, it's on at 4:00.

CM running style reminds me of Emmit Smith with more speed. I think CM does not need to run with a lot of power because he is so explosive once he gets to second level he will not be caught.

Neither of them. Michael played in the east west shrine game and Gio is a RS sophomore.

The RBs in the game are Stepfan Taylor, Gillislee, Rouse, Barner, Franlin and Ellington.
