Default Trade down

If I where in charge of this draft, with all the needs we have, I'd trade down to the 15-25 range and get the best offensive playmaker available. I'd be ok taking Montee Bell, or another top RB, or even another WR, or Eiffert the TE from Notre Dame. Question is what are the other offensive options in this draft?

If you're sitting at pick #15, #20 or #30, who do you see near the top of this draft that drives you to jump up?

Scenarios I can see Jets finding a partner to trade down:
1) Joeckel drops
2) No QB drafted and one of these later teams thinks he's worth the jump.
3) Jarvis Jones is dropping but your medical team tells you that everyone else is wrong.

Except for these three scenarios, I think Jets will struggle to find partners to trade down with.

My ideal trade down scenario would be to track back down to possibly the mid teens and acquire their first, 2nd, and 4th. They would then use that first on Chance Warmack if he fell, their first second on Giovanni Bernard, and their other second on Tyler Wilson. I would be pretty happy with that.

Someone could be willing to move up for either Matt Barkley/Geno Smith. That's another scenario

Problem is next few teams after us I don't think will be looking to take a QB anyway. If Geno Smith gets past the Jets the next team I could see pulling the trigger is Minnesota at 23.

And if they were that in love with a QB prospect, they probably wouldn't wait to see if AZ, BUF, and NYJ were going to pass on them before trying to trade up.

The best chance to trade down is probably KC takes Joeckel on the 1 and Geno Smith drops to the 9. He's an Andy Reid type QB and both Dorsey and Reid will be looking for a franchise guy in their first draft.

Jets get the 33, 65 and next year's 1st at a minimum in that deal. Probably more.

I still think Gio will be a late first-rounder or an extremely early 2nd.

Would love that trade. One more first rounder next year where there's gonna be multiple franchise QB available & Clowney looks like the kind of monster who can step in turn around an entire team's defense.

If WE are thinking about trading down, so must be a bunch of other teams, so I doubt the market is going to be that strong. The QBs in this class could all drop, so I don't think that's going to be all that enticing. Maybe KC, but I think they don't really have to get to No. 9 to pick up a QB, they could have one fall to them at their 2nd rd pick.

If our medical staff isn't high on Jones, but someone else is, I could see that happen.

I don't think Joeckel is going to fall, but if he does, sure.

I think if Star falls too, someone might trade up as well.

But I don't think the QBs are enticing enough in this draft to be paid a ransom for, as of now.

If Millner falls to 9, a team might want to trade up to jump past the titans

Cincy needs help with their pass rush. Probably their biggest offseason need. Wouldn't be surprised to see them move up using their extra second rounder to grab Mingo, Ansah, etc.

Possible:
KC: DT Lotulelei
JAX: DE Moore
OAK: DE Werner
PHI: OT Joeckel
DET: CB Milliner
CLE: OLB Jones
AZ: QB Smith
BUF: WR Allen

What do you do? Is there someone jumps up to 9 for?

I think that a team who needs pass-rush help like Cincy could move up to grab Mingo in that scenario, especially if they aren't crazy about Ansah.

There are a couple of scenarios that would prompt a lower team to trade up. If two of the 3 truly first round tackles go in the top 10 then a team that really needs a right tackle could make the jump.

Same story with the Cornerbacks in the draft.

The last is something draftniks hate, but NFL teams do frequently, trade up for someone that's high on their boards but lower on the draftnik boards...it does happen.

I Joeckel drops and we don't take him, I'd flip my laptop from the couch. Go check D'Brick's ratings as a left tackle over the last two years and tell me hasn't fallen off tremendously. He's a starter in this league, but he isn't close to elite anymore.

Our biggest advantage that became our biggest disadvantage and coincided with back to back trips to the AFC championship game and our awful demise was the rise and fall of our offensive line. With our current line we can't protect a QB and we can't run the ball. Our two worst spots are RG and RT, and Joeckel would be a Day 1 starter and a stud at RT.

RT will be especially important if we end up with a left handed QB (cough cough Vick), and we could have a surprisingly quick turn around with a good defense, a great OL, and Vick. I am only talking about Vick because I read several reports today saying we are all in on Vick but aren't openly talking about it because it would be "tampering" since he is still on the Eagles.

Woody wants him to sell tickets and make money again, Rex loves him because he views him as his job savior and Vick is still a heck of an athlete for what it's worth, and we hired the Eagles OC from Vick's stint there.

Vick was a NFL MVP quality player last year when he had a great OL, led by Jason Peters. Their OL was ATROCIOUS this year but no one wants to talk about that, just about how Vick was bad. I'd say the problem was 75% offensive line, 15% not having a good group of receivers (DJax and Maclin are overrated because of speed and a cool factor), and 10% Vick not playing well. He didn't have any protection, the line couldn't run block, the defense was a mess so they couldn't hold onto victories, and he tried to do everything himself with very, very little help and couldn't do it.

I'm personally against Vick coming here because I think he wins us enough games to miss the playoffs AND also miss on next year's Top 2 QBs: Teddy Bridgewater and Johnny Manziel. Basically a typical Jets move -- some form of success for one season only to miss out on a 15 year period of great success with a young QB.

EDIT: I should also add there is no way in hell Joeckel falls to 9. There is a 500% greater chance that Te'o goes undrafted like Vontaze Burfict than Joeckel falling out of the Top 4 (#1 could be Geno and #2 and #3 could be a DE or DT). Eagles would take him with Geno off the board to protect Foles or Vick if he stays.

So the same player that did not give up a sack till the last few weeks of the season is no longer elite?

Thanks for confirming that you still as big of a joke as ever.

The only person who is a joke is you kiddo. Be a bigger homer. Go look at any objective ranking system. He may have been our best OL, but that really isn't saying much given the circumstances.

Just because he allowed less sacks this year as the coaching staff tried to call less passing plays and quicker drop backs to prevent them does not mean he is all of sudden back in elite form. That's like saying Vernon Davis is now a hack because he's averaging 5 yards receiving a game with Kaepernick at QB, ignoring that he isn't getting the ball thrown his way.

I see what little intelligence you ever had, if it existed, has continued to wane.

And this is aside from the point that A) Joeckel is not falling and B) if he somehow does because of contracting malaria, we are still taking him no ifs ands or buts at #9. He'd be an immediate starter at RT.

He was horrible last year and still isn't elite despite having a better season. Last year he gave up the 6th most sacks in the league with 8 and was the 69th ranked run blocker --- ten sports worse than Wayne Hunter. Can't rely just on statistics to say he's now elite again, have to take everything into consideration. Or you can be a homer and just say wooooo D'Brick is backkkk.

Thank god you aren't remotely in charge of this team or involved in personnel decision. Go back to your 3 am tv dinner.
