I'll preface this by saying that I have been as big a Revis fan as a fan can get without turning into a fanboy.
I have studied his game for a number of years, and he is as close to flawless as a player can get at any position. I am often awestruck when trying to figure out how he can be so good. As a football player, he is once-in-a-decade type of talent. As a corner, possibly once-in-a-lifetime. I do think that he is better in today's game than Sanders was in his own. However, you have to wonder... how many players at his level that do not play the quarterback or offensive line position, and are not named Lawrence Taylor our Deion Sanders, have ever worn a Super Bowl ring? Would it be better in today's NFL to have a cadre of better than good players instead of a cadre of decent players and the best corner of all time? I'm starting to move near Br4d's side of the fence on this. I wanted to believe that Rex's philosophy of building a backside-first defense would counter the NFL movement to promote the passing game, but it hasn't proven out. Would we be better served to deal Revis for our best new chance to draft a QB? And when I say this, I don't mean drafting one this year. As the faggot Patriots have proven, you can always trade into next season. Sidenote: Do you think Rex's unanimity to consider reading Revis as a commodity is a huge reason why GM candidates will not take the job with the Jets? Because, if I were one of them, trying to fix the level of talent on the roster and also the cap situation, Revis would be the first trade I made.

no way, revis allows the defense the opportunity to be elite in this league. if cro can keep up his play, teams are not going to be able to throw on the jets, add in our young explosive line and the defense can really be something other teams will fear.
i know rex is a blowhard and all of that, but hes right at least about the defense. they are going to bully teams next season, and revis being healthy is a major part of that, so, no way. revis is the cornerstone (pun intended) of our d. |

He will be tough to trade for anything more than a 2 until he proves he can still play at the same level. Even with that the team we trade him to will have to sign him to a long term deal or he probably won't show up and for the same reason what team will want to do that..finally we take a bath on his contract if we trade him now.

I think having a corner like him should be kept for the length of his career. If Cromartie plays at the same level he did this last year, then we can have a dominant secondary. That's something some teams dream of having.
As for countering the pass, that is not necessarily due to our secondary, but because we haven't had a pass rusher to rush the QB into making dumb decisions. If we draft that guy, which this year we should do, we can counter that passing attack. Who knows how good this defense could be with a pass rush and a dominant secondary. The sky really is the limit on that. I can't see Revis in another team's jersey. It would make me sick. We will have our chances to go after a QB, but I don't think we need to get rid of him. That would KILL me if that happen |

Good post. I agree that trading Revis needs to be a major consideration however the problem isn't so much whether to trade him... but rather, at what price point?
The biggest disaster that could possibly occur with the Revis situation is to let him walk out into free agency. For someone as competitive as Revis, someone with as much of a burning desire to win a Super Bowl, there are only two possible locations he will end up: New England, or more likely Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh would not be as bad as New England, but either way these teams are direct competitors to the Jets getting to the top and to simply let more ammunition for them walk out of the doors here would be nothing short of fireable negligence. So with that in mind, the leverage is actually against the Jets somewhat. In a vacuum, people would freak out if we were only able to get a third round pick in a trade for Revis... but would you rather let him walk? The Jets need to determine a minimum price to move him in a trade. Not sure what that would be but it's the compensation required to move him in a trade. If they can not get that price then they need to move heaven and earth to resign him to a contract that makes him a Jet for life. At that point then you focus on moving Cromartie. If Rex ends up getting fired down the road then Cromartie isn't nearly as much of an asset as he currently is.

Keep Revis and add to the LB corps, Sanchez and Holmes come off the books in 2014 so we can fix the offense gradually. Revis wants to be a Jet and should retire one. He helps our defense in every facet, run game, pass rush, all that. He's in the Patrick Willis, Demarcus Ware, JJ Watt class of talent, you dont trade players like him unless your getting a stud, elite QB prospect which is something we cant guarantee

I have been a strong supporter of trading Revis over the years. I'm now starting to think the player we should trade is Cro, coming off his best season.
Though if it meant getting our franchise QB I would trade Revis in a heartbeat.

Of course I did but I didn't see his team offering him a fat new contract before the season started.

How has it not proven out? Rex has the best corner tandem in the NFL and has had one of the best pass defenses in the NFL? Revis allows this defense to be what it is. The front 7 other than Wilkerson and possibly Coples is a mess. If the Jets didnt have 2 shut down corners that allowed them to play man coverage and blitz as much as they want in numbers, the defense would be in the bottom half of the league. No way you should trade Revis. You have pieces every year to try and acquire a franchise QB--7 of them to be exact. Use them, not your best player. |

As usual, the Jets are screwed. Either over pay to keep him here, and I don't think any CB is worth what he wants or lose him for nothing. |

I worry about him holding out again or walking in free agency and getting nothing back in return. I luv Revis but if we could get a sweet delal back I would trade him . This team is going nowhere next year and the following year .
We need a qb in the worst way and other pieces,,,,,,,,,it's rebuilding time so In my eyes no one is untouchable, we can trade anyone including Revis! All this said I have zero doubt that under any conditions would Rex trade Revis ! I feel we will keep him watch him hold out again and THEN trade him . |

For the best corner of all time? If I had a great offense and a decent defense with a weak secondary... I might.

Unfortunately I agree with the people who think he will hold out..especially coming off an injury..he has absolutely nothing to lose..if he isn't as good then nobody will see it..if he is then he will be a free agent when the season is over and go anywhere he wants (think Patriots)...I also agree with those who say the Jets are screwed..that are royally.
