Default WTF Westhoff?!

I really liked this guy, but did anyone see his interview this morning? I know he is jump starting his career as an analyst, but come on guy.

"Part of our defense, and against certain people, there were some weaknesses and people know that. On our kicking team, we led the league in tackles inside the 20, so people started back in the hole most of the time.

"But what would happen, when our defense played the long field, they were a little suspect in the middle and people drove the ball up to midfield on us. On a shorter field, our defense, because of our really good corner play, constricted and played really well and hold people. But then they would punt us and Mark Sanchez would start on the 10-yard line.' There's plenty of blame to go around."

No mention of all the bullshit his Special Teams caused. Just blaming the defense.

He took jabs at Tanny, Rex Ryan's defense, the organization involved with Tebow and Sparano. Is this guy serious?

His take on Tebow:

"It was a mess, it was an absolute mess. You can say whatever you want but I was very, very disappointed."

He added: "There are things with Tim Tebow as an NFL quarterback -- he's very limited in some things. If you throw him right in the middle of a drop back passing offense he will look very, very average at best, but if you incorporate him into different facets of your offense, I think he can be a factor. That's what I felt like we were going to do."

"That was very disappointing the way it came out," Westhoff said. "I don't think anyone has ever answered that question. Why didn't we do it? I know we didn't practice it. We didn't practice it in training camp. We were going to unveil it. Well, I'm still waiting for the unveiling.

His take on Sanchez:

On Mark Sanchez: "I believe Mark was a manageable quarterback on a good football team," Westhoff said. "We had a good defense, I had a good group on teams, we ran the ball well, we had a handful of receivers who could make big plays and Mark was thrown into those ingredients...

"Then all of a sudden the burden was thrust on Mark and that's just too much for him in my opinion. I think a whole offense needs to be designed around Mark. You can say that it was, but there are some things he just doesn't do as well...plus you still need a very good running game and special teams to complement him. And we lost that, we all lost that."

this is more important than that:

"But then they would punt us and Mark Sanchez would start on the 10-yard line.'"

Jets LB corp was a joke to put it in civil terms. Westhoff did his best to avoid that.

Tell me what we didn't know already.

It is not like Jets didn't spend on LB roster either. The likes of Harris/Pace/Scott took the money and ran with it.

It is more a jab at T-Bomb than Ryan - or that was what I took. (Refer to the comment above - you will get where I am coming from.)

Well there's the issue.

The part about the wildcat never being worked on or practiced and then expected to work on gameday is a big one. I mean everyone suspected Sparano of sucking but most of the blame was placed elsewhere......

What did he say that we have not all been saying? There was not enough talent on the team and Sparano and Tanny sucked.

Pretty much the case.

Well it looks like Westhoff has now made it onto the Rex Ryan fanboys shit list. Shotty, Sparano, Cavanaugh, Tannenbaum, and now Westhoff. Who's next?

Never said anything about Rex if he did I guess I missed it he threw Sparano and Tanny under the bus though.

This makes me wonder (I am not a huge Tebow fan) but if Rex was saving Tebow from failure. Tebow can't run a traditional offense and if he tried he would looked horrible.

He is talking about Pistol formations in the in the presser maybe we have not seen the last of Timmy boy.

Everything he said was pretty much spot on.

Wish he acknowledged his ST failure this year though. Football Outsiders ranked us dead last in that department using their advanced metrics.

I'm no expert on ST play but the lack of depth probably affected him the most. Any time injuries happened to starters his guys got pulled up to starting positions leaving him with bottom of the barrel type guys to run ST.

He's pretty much right.

If anything, this is an indictment on Tannenbaum (no longer here), Sparano (no longer here), and Mark Sanchez (may not be here). Our defense does it's job more often than not, yet Mark Sanchez still messes things up.
