Do we really want Tom Gamble?

Since 2011, he has been Director of Player Personnel. He has been given some responsibility over the Draft, but Gamble's primary responsibility has been making sure the 49ers acquire the best available players from other teams.

Gamble has a solid track record. The Niners have become one of the best teams in the NFL under his watch at least in part because of solid free agent additions such as Carlos Rogers, Donte Whitner, and Jonathan Goodwin. I happen to think the success is due much more to the incredible coaching of Jim Harbaugh and Harbaugh's staff., but Gamble has been part of a well-run organization.
We need someone that is solid in the drafting process, not the steal players from other teams process (which is also nice - but we need a solid draft)

It's hard to build a team using free agents as the core of the team. You wind up with a bunch of guys that are mercs justifying their contracts instead of fighting as a team.

You definitely can supplement an otherwise talented roster with a key free agent here or there but it can't be a main part of the process.

Hell to the yes to Gamble. Gamble has been apart of finding some great talent but it was just a matter of getting the right coach for the job to get that talent to be coached and for the potential to be brought out of the players.

He has football experience, that's what Woody will want.

Can we make this the official "NY Jets GM Search" thread?

Anyway, here is a list of the Jets' GM history and their records:

I would guess that any GM candidate that interviews would ask for permission to be able to get rid of Rex...

Gary Myers ‏@garymyersNYDN
I've been told Bill Polian has no interest in the Jets GM job. Polian's prickly personality wouldn't go over real well in NY.

As soon as GM candidates find out Sanchez is guaranteed $8.25M in 2013,they will demand plane ticket home. What was Tannenbaum thinking?

Polian is 70 and too chickenshit to handle NY (much like peyton manning) it would be a disaster if he came here

Giants have granted permission to Jets to speak to Marc Ross, per @NotoriousOHM. #Jets

One NFL insider speculated that Gamble won't have serious interest in the Jets because of the stipulation that Rex Ryan must be retained.

Rex has 2 more years left. The Jets will stink again. They have no money and too many holes to fill in one off season.

The Jets will waste another year before firing Rex.
