Ok, we've all seen the countless circus references. We've heard the talking heads on the national scene snicker and laugh at the decisions made by Rex about the QB situation ad nauseum. We've even seen our prime time game flexed by the network out of fear of another buttfumble being broadcast coast to coast in front of a dwindleling audience. It is NBA season too now.

How much credibility has been forfeited this season amid all the drama. How much of the Jets brand has been lost? I'm sure we won't get the numbers on the swag sales but has anyone else noticed a decided lack of folks in the street wearing Jets gear? Or even talking positively about them? When was the last time you heard anything positive about the Jets on TV/Radio/Inet?

That Woody Johnson is keenly aware of this would be my guess. The brand is as important as the product on the field if you're talking purely money in the coffers. All of it comes into play and you have to wonder what the outlook is for 2013. The Mets have a perception problem. That being of a franchise operating on the margins due to bad judgements and mismanagement. Sound familiar? We may not have Bernie Madoff, but we do have Tim Tebow.

What we do know about Woody Johnson is that he's not gonna stand pat for very long if the trending is downwards and accelerating stability be damned. For better or worse, Woody wants/needs a winner in the New York Jets Franchise. He needs to win on the field. He needs to win off the field too. He's in for what? $750Mil on the stadium alone and you don't get to be a billionaire by losing on investments no matter what your birth circumstances are.

Woody has been embarrased to the nth degree this year by the Ryan/Tannenbaum Jets. Thanksgiving night had repercussions far beyond that particular result. It may have been the beginning of the end for the Tannenbaum/Ryan era. That NBC flexed the SD game may have been the final straw no matter what happens on Sunday. Perception is everything in a tightly constested market like the TriState area. If you're perceived as a clown/loser, you'll be treated as such and no one will take you seriously. That's something Ryan is finding out right now.

This team lacks credibility and Woody has to restore it PDQ or he will lose the marketing wars here in the TriState. There's only one way to do that. Bring in credibility and build from that. No way can he stand pat with what he has. Perception and credibility requirements won't let that happen.

I am 41 years old and other than a handful of good seasons smattered over that time for the most part the Jets have been irrelevant in the NFL. It is time this franchise work towards consistent success or the Giants will scoop up more of the young fans over time. After all this is a business and any business has to enjoy success to thrive. The time is now to right the ship.

Well down in North Carolina, I never really saw people wearing Jets gear. Maybe 4 or so people in my two years of following the Jets. I have maybe 2-3 friends who actively follow them.

NBC flexed the San Diego game most likely because San Diego sucks as well. It wasn't because of us, that's for sure.

The whole circus thing is overblown. The Giants are about to collapse, but you don't see people calling them a circus/embarrassment. The Texans get embarrassed by above average teams, but nobody calls them out on it. But no, we are the circus of the NFL. If we take Tebow out next year, I am willing to bet 200 dollars that nobody will mention the word circus and Jets in the same sentence. Win some games, and people will forget about this year.

If anything, the announcers mocking the talent on our team signals an end for the Tannenbaum era. Nobody has really mocked Rex Ryan so far besides having perhaps the most polarizing QB I have ever seen on the team. Had Tim Tebow been average Joe Schmoe backup, nobody would care and bother to waste Rex's time with this stupid QB controversy every single freaking week.

Being a foreigner, I am not sure about the Giants/Jets fan base ratio in tri state area. Can anyone provide some insight on that?

it depends brooklyn...

jets country used to be long island and queens because the team was there and the training camp was there. now it is more jersey guys. the giants are far reaching in the area including here in ct. i would say its at least 70/30 giants fans to jets fans.

whats more annoying is in the past 10 years its gotten to be about 50/50 up here between jets and patriots and that never used to be the case, you couldnt find a patriots fan in southern or western ct in the 90s.

armand the jets are viewed as a circus for a number of reasons, the fact that they do things for headlines rather than wins is one part of it. there is the atmosphere that the team portrayed on the hbo show which was fun and funny but it makes the team look foolish to many. the shake weight thing was one of the funniest things i have ever seen..

I don't know, C. Losing is bad, stupid is worse, but winning cleanses everything and in the NFL today, things can change in a blink. We know this. We've seen it. 2009 - even Rex writes off the team's chances at 7-7, and "the Jets backed in" becomes a recurrent theme in the sportsmedia. None of that seemed to matter when they were playing for the AFC Championship. 2010, Rex's foot fetish was pretty embarrassing. Suddenly, the Jets beat the Patriots in the playoffs and stuff Wes Welker's attempt at humor back in his face and I can't even remember the last time I heard a foot fetish joke. Two years with what felt like pretty low points, turned around in a hurry.

The recipe for success in the NFL is just crystal clear. The NFL is all about parity, but there's one position where parity in the NFL doesn't exist and never will. Find a quarterback that won't ever lose you games but will win you the two or three that turns you from a 9-7 team into a 11-5 or 12-4 team and the value of your brand follows. Easier said, I realize.

I live in California. I haven't seen any Jets stuff on the street except things on myself. Jets is the very first team I bought gears for my son. But I highly doubt he will be a Jets fan when he grows up because Jets fan base is very mean towards new fans.

In Eastern Connecticut it is like 90/10 Patriots fans to Jets fans. I don't know that I have ever seen anybody flying Jets gear here but I see Pats stuff all the time.

The Pats are closer though. It's 86 miles to Gillette Stadium from my place and 130 miles to MetLife Stadium.

I'm guessing that New Haven is the midpoint geographically speaking but not from a fan interest point of view.

The Jets were on to something after 2010, I felt like they were becoming one of the distinct NFL teams. Now they are just another mediocre team like the Titans, Bills, Raiders, etc.

It sucks a lot to, we were finally distinguishing ourselves, especially from the Giants. I think other teams in the same boat as us are the Chargers and Cardinals. Chargers had so much credibility and now they are just another team trying to win their first super bowl.

Also someone brought up a great point, the Jets were building a national fanbase, it wasnt just NYers, people were becoming Jets fans all over, HUGE banwagon especially in 2010.

Its all gone now though.

Yeah, you're right. And I want to explain-away Eli, but I just can't. In the end, there are a few exceptional quarterbacks, another few very good quarterbacks, and then a stable loaded with JAGS. If the Colts knew that Peyton Manning would play as well this year as he did, they probably STILL would have released him. Because those quarterbacks who break the parity curve are so few and far between, no team can afford to let the next generation's Brady/Rodgers/Manning/Brees slip by. I guess we wait and see whether Andrew Luck makes them look like geniuses or Tannenbaums.

I could see this coming. The Jets/Woody/Rex etc love media attention. When we were winning we were the darlings of the media and now well turn about is fair play. The Jets have become known for chasing after the hottest FA, a coach who enjoys running his mouth, a GM who makes nonsensical personnel decisions. All of which has earned them "Circus". Bring in a no nonsense GM/HC who makes sound football decisions, the rest will take care of itself. That's assuming Woody could take his team not being in the spot light, making splashy acquisitions.

It's possible that the Eli phenomenon is that he's a good enough QB to make the Giants good to great pass rush a killer in the playoffs. That's the only way I can explain his rings. It's definitely a mix thing between him handling pressure well and the Giant's D putting so much pressure on the opposing QB.

I agree on the Peyton-Luck thing. I don't think the Colts thought Peyton was done but they wanted 10 years of great football and Luck could give that to them.

The problem with Woody is that he seems to think short term when it comes to money. PSLs, Tebow, begging for national TV games, horribly inflated prices - he needs to realize that the ONLY way to ensure financial success is to field a good team. A good team naturally brings in cash - fans purchase more merchandise, go to more games, get more national TV appearances, etc. etc. etc.

Until he figures out that he's trying to work it in reverse, we're likely stuck with the lame attempts at lightning in a bottle.

winning will change the perception, but woody doesn't realize that. building a team that can compete yearly is the way to get national exposure, not these tebow garbage moves.
