I totally disagree with those who claim it would "set the jets back years" if they fired Rex (cheerleader) Ryan. Rex wants his players to like him so much he refuses to see how BAD many of them truly are. We can ALL agree Mike T. MUST go as GM (and I don't mean reassigned), but how much good does that do if we hang on to Rex "gotta play/defend my favorite guys" Ryan? For the new GM to be successful he MUST have the mandate and ability to bring in his own coach/people. The jets are ALREADY the laughing stock of the league--how in the world can they be "set back" any further by getting rid of their laughing stock of a "coach" who can't or doesn't want to see the obvious? Is it even possible for the jets to be any MORE of an embarrassment if they fired Rex? Would ANY other coach in this league have even PLAYED Mark Sanchez against the Titans after his infamous butt fumble on national TV against the Pats and his terrible showing v. powerhouse Arizona (and about every other team the last 2 years)? Rex ("I feel "great" about playing Mark against the Titans") Ryan only shows how ridiculous he looks by constantly claiming all year that "Mark gives us the best chance to win." Only by a very thorough housecleaning (Tanny, Ryan, Terry Boobway, etc.) can the jets rid themselves of this Rich Kotite-like impression of a team, and get the rest of the world to stop laughing at this joke of an organization. Woody Johnson needs to eat a few management/coach contracts and start over in the GM/coach/scouting department--unless you like seeing Bart ("I can flip off the camera 'cause I'm guaranteed $4M in 2012") Scott, and Mark (I can run up my teammates butt 'cause I'm guaranteed 8M in 2013")Sanchez struggle on loss after loss while Rex continues to claim that he's "not giving up on this team." Sorry Rex, the players need a coach not a friend, and your loyalty to these and many other below margin players (Eric Smith, Bryan Thomas, etc.) is reflected in your team's record--About the only ones that thinks you have the jets on the right track are Mike T. and Birdbrain Boobway. Clean house, you morons!

Point blank: The Jets need to either fire Tannenbaum AND Ryan or keep them both for one last year. Firing Tannenbaum will not lead the Jets to success in 2013. They will not find a GM worth his merit with Ryan in house. Any GM worth his merit will want his own guy.
When it comes to Sanchez, let that be up to the new GM and HC, but both either need to go or stay. The choice is yours, Woody. |

More "Fire fire fire" CRAP. Newsflash: This team at worst is going 6-10 w/ arguably the worst offense(and one of the worst injury bugs) in team history. As of 2 weeks ago this team was still in playoff contention. Yes it's been a bad season...but the only thing embarassing is those of you acting like we're the washington generals of the gridiron. Get a grip & a clue!

Wish we could can Woody. That would help fix a major part of the problem.

Maybe as fan bases go...but as an organization I'd say that's quite a stretch

It's not all sunshine. This organization has alot of work to do and there do need to be changes. It just needs to be done in a responsible logical manner. Not just fire everyone in sight & hope a miracle worker walks through the door.

Rex should go because it makes football sense long term. We need a new GM and that GM should be free to bring in who ever he wants including the HC. You aren't going to get a decent GM unless you hand over the keys and put a stop to this circus.
This isn't a quick fix in fact we are probably are going to take a hit short term. This also isn't about Rex having one losing season, its about the offense, lack of directions and his role or choosing the current personnel. I don't like the current system and Rex is an integral part of it. If you think Rex is so great he can get a HC job some where else. But I doubt anyone else shares the myopic views of Jets fan still grasping at their only taste of the playoffs hoping he can bring them back to the promise land. Sorry that ship has sailed time to stop living in the past. Last edited by Jon_Snow; 12-27-2012 at 06:12 PM. |

good teams don't fire coaches that have had success in the playoffs,Bottom line. Bill Parcells was a DC as well and if you go back and look at his records year to year they were up and down at times. Bill brought us to the AFC championship game then missed the playoffs the following year , then retired breifly. Id like to see Rex have an offense that doesn't turn the ball over at light speed and can move the chains and control the clock for once. This is more on Sparano,Sanchez and MR.T then Rex

I agree you can't fire one without the other, that being said I say fire both now.
My thinking is to use 2013 as a assessment year for the new GM/Coach. We know we have Sanchez for another year, and frankly I'm happy about that. You don't give up on such a high draft pick, especially one who has shown he has the talent to make all the throws and has been successful in his first 2 yrs in the league. I would bring in an offensive staff that is known for developing young QBs, restock the offense with more talent and give the kid every chance to succeed, which the current regime has never done. Lets be honest, this offense needs a major upgrade all around no matter who the QB is. Spend 2013 assessing the overall talent of the team as a whole and start setting a plan in motion for the future.

I understand why some would want RR gone and are impatient but he deserves a shot with another QB/OC imo.

I agree. In order to move forward you have to cut ties with the past even if that past contained elements of success. The first step is to start at the top to bring in decision makers who can evaluate players in 2013.

The Jets shouldn't fire Rex Ryan without having a strong plan in place as to how to deal with the aftermath of that move. The defense can't take big steps back at the same time the Jets are trying to bring the offense up to speed.
No strong plan can emerge until a new GM is in place and even then his strong plan may well include keeping Rex Ryan. Keeping Rex around until all the dust has cleared is a wise move. |

Rex Ryan X's and O's: Brilliant
Rex Ryan managing human beings without Ray Lewis and Ed Reed in the locker-room (or someone with balls): Inept What you want to do with him depends on what you think the HC's job is.
