CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Chalk Bart Scott up as a major proponent of the New York Jets' two-quarterback system, especially with Tim Tebow running the Wildcat offense.

When the Jets linebacker was asked how the team was dealing with the dynamic of Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow and the media attention surrounding the two quarterbacks, he went on a two-minute spiel about the benefits of the Wildcat with Tebow at the helm.

“We understand how tough the Wildcat, having an athlete out there on the field and put the ball in his hands, at all times is because we had to defend the Wildcat,” Scott said. “It causes problems. We understand the advantage that it gives us. Whenever you have to prepare for things that may or may not happen, it stretches your defense.”

Against most offensive formations, Scott said, defenses don’t account for the quarterback in their assignments, essentially giving them an 11-on-10 advantage before the snap. The Wildcat erases that edge, and Tebow gives it an added dimension most teams haven’t had.

“What’s always been a weakness of the Wildcats formation is that Ronnie Brown couldn’t throw the ball,” Scott said. “Pat White was too small to take the pounding. Now, you put a guy who can take the pounding and has the ability to throw. … Now, what are you going to do?”

Defenses tend to crowd the line of scrimmage when opponents go to the Wildcat. The typical adjustment, Scott said, is to put eight defenders in the box, blitz off the edge, leave one safety back and play man-to-man coverage on the outside. With Tebow at quarterback, however, teams may have to adjust their schemes.

The Jets have used the Wildcat in the past, first with Leon Washington and more recently with Brad Smith, who played quarterback in his college days at Missouri.

But Tebow’s passing ability isn’t the only upgrade over Smith and Washington. Both Scott and coach Rex Ryan pointed out that at 236 pounds, the quarterback provides a better option for running between the tackles.

“When you bring in a guy like Tim, as much as I love Brad, Brad wasn’t going to give you the inside running game that Tim can give you,” Ryan said. “And Tim can throw the ball a little bit better than Brad obviously. Those were things that were real positive to me.”

Scott said he would take his chances with Tebow running the ball if he had to beat one man, a situation the linebacker believed could come up often in the Wildcat package.

But in addition to his praise for the quarterback’s skill set, the 11-year veteran also complimented Tebow for his character off the field.

“How can you ever not accept somebody who has humility, works hard, who’s a great teammate?" Scott said. "I knew Tebow well before he came here and he showed me the respect, just hearing me out, asking me how he could be a better pro. Guys don’t do that. You see the cameras that follow him. Half (the media) wouldn’t be here if he wasn’t here. He takes it all in stride, and it never affects his relationship with his teammates.”

He added that like Tebow, the rest of the Jets haven’t had any issue dealing with the extra media attention following the quarterback.

“It’s New York,” Scott said. “We can handle anything.”

But Scott also took the opportunity to tweak his teammate about his shirtless run through the rain yesterday that garnered national attention.

"That slow-motion run," Scott said. "Like I told him, I’ve never seen anybody decide to take their shirt off in the rain. Usually I put stuff on. Maybe it was holy water, I don’t know.”

Sanchez/Tebow could be similar to the Chris Leak/Tebow situation for the Jets this year. All that did was win a college championship. Hopefully that is what happens. College is obviously different from the NFL, but even in college a two quarterback system generally doesn't work. That means, with the right guys it may work in the NFL also.

For Jets fans who didn't see that season of UF football, it was exciting and Tebow coming into the game for his packages did not affect Chris Leak one bit. In fact, it helped him. Let's see if Sanchez/Tebow can get it done.

Tebow was 22 of 33 for 358 and 5 TDs passing, plus, 89 carries for 469 yards and 8 TDs.

One thing I've noticed with Tebow.....and may be a bad thing....Was that he almost always is the one to carry the ball. I think he is the only person he trusts to get the yard/yards/td.

I don't know if it is a matter of trust, or that the other 15 games the opposing D plays the RB has the ball, so they go to the RB out of habit. Will be interesting to see how it works
