Two players with the highest number of votes will be selected to TGG Hall of Fame.
You can vote for several players at the same time.

Picked Gerry Philbin (barely over Klecko).

How many players can be voted for? There seems to be no limit. Shouldn't there only be one vote for one player allowed?

I didn't see Philbin or Grantham play, I know the are very worthy candistates for best defensive player in team history but I went w/ Klecko(in my opinion the best player in Jets history) and Mo Lewis.
I love Victor Green, Kyle Clifton and Dennis Byrd but those guys should not be on the list.

Bullet for Klecko.
Voting continues, of course, but may I suggest that if the vote remains as lopsided as it is, we limit it to the one? Plus, in this case, it's probably fitting, since he was a ProBowler at three different defensive positions. Carry on. . . . |

Klecko, Philbin, and Grantham are by a very wide margin the three most worthy players on that list.

I went Klecko and Philbin. Others are deserving but those were the best two defensive players on the best Jet's teams we have seen so far.
A suggestion on how to limit votes to make the process valid would be to limit the number of votes a person can cast to the number of slots open in a given season. |

Gerry Philbin
To view links in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. Your post count is 0 momentarily. Gerald John Philbin (born July 31, 1941 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island) is a former American collegiate football defensive tackle and four year starter from the University at Buffalo where he earned several honors including Second- team All-American, Little All-America, and All-American Academic team. Drafted in Professional Football by both the Detroit Lions of the National Football League and the New York Jets of the American Football League in the third round of the 1964 draft, he joined the Jets and became an immediate starter and perennial All-AFL selection at defensive end. He played stellar defense for them for nine seasons. He was selected as an American Football League All-Star in 1968 and 1969. A ferocious pass-rusher, Philbin recorded 14½ sacks of opposing quarterbacks in 1968, helping the Jets win the AFL Championship. Philbin was one of two UB players to play on American Football League Championship teams, the other being Willie Ross with the 1964 Buffalo Bills. In the third AFL-NFL World Championship Game, Philbin anchored the Jets defense in limiting the Colts to seven points. In 1973 he joined the Philadelphia Eagles for one season and finished his career in the short-lived World Football League as a member of the New York Stars in 1974 where he joined former Super Bowl III alumni George Sauer, Jr, Randy Beverly, John Dockery, John Elliott, and Vito (Babe) Parilli. He was an All-WFL selection in 1974. Philbin is a member of the All-time American Football League Team. |

Larry Grantham
To view links in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. Your post count is 0 momentarily. Larry Grantham (born September 16, 1938 in Crystal Springs, Mississippi) is a former American collegiate and Professional Football player. A member of the "Ole Miss" Athletic Hall of Fame, he was a linebacker of the University of Mississippi who came to the American Football League's New York Titans in the 1960 college draft and helped form the backbone of a New York Jets defense that reached the playoffs in 1968 and 1969, and in 1968 captured the AFL Championship and the World Championship, over the NFL's Baltimore Colts. Thus Grantham's team, with him as a starter throughout, went from being the worst team in an upstart league (the AFL) to World Champions in just nine years. From his left outside linebacker spot, Grantham wrought havoc on opposing offenses. One of the Jets leading tacklers, he was named to the AFL All-Star team five times and played in eight league All-Star games. He was selected to the All-Time All- AFL second team. He is one of only twenty players who were in the American Football League for its entire ten-year existence, and only seven AFL players who played their entire careers in one city. Grantham was also named the 1971 New York Jets MVP. He played one last season in 1974 for the Florida Blazers of the start-up World Football League. The Blazers made it to the World Bowl 1, losing to the Birmingham Americans. |
