Default New York Islanders 2011-2012 Season Thread

There just has to be one right?

What a win last night. Johnny T looks sick so far this season. We were all rockin' and rollin' last night.
We finally have a fucking team, and Montoya and Nabokov are a fine 1-2 tandem. We were clearly the better team last night, and coming off a thrashing of the Conference runner-ups, we look pretty good so far.

I was reluctant to start this thread because of jinxing purposes, but it seems okay to join in at least for now. They're certainly off to a good start, and it seems pretty clear that they finally have some talent on the team, rather than only hard workers. In that way they look a lot like the team circa 1976 or so. With a young core of good players, a potential superstar, and a farm system that is getting stronger, they could become a real strong franchise - right about when they move to Kansas City.

Call me naive, and I know anything can happen, I just don't see it happening.

I agree. I think someone will make a play to keep them in the NY area, even if it's in Queens (Citi Field Complex) or Suffolk (old Pilgrim State grounds).

The season's certainly started out well. I'm more exited than I've been since the Laviolette years, it seems as though the rebuild phase is finally starting to show some results. I was already planning on going to a Bruins/Isles game up here at some point, but I'll certainly make it down to the Colosseum a few times this winter if they can stay in contention.

I was hoping someone started this thread, while I'm enthusiastic about the team, I think the difference is the veterans that are helping to make the difference.

I'm not sold on Bailey he has had time to improve, and I really don't see much from him, still loses a lot of battles along the boards, it could be lack of confidence or chemistry with his line.

Go Isles!!

His name is Kirill Kabanov and he just got traded to the Swiss League, which, I think, is a good move for him. He's a great talent, but he's kind of flaky, supposedly. He's only 19, so hopefully he outgrows that.

These guys need to get their heads out of their asses, because if they don't win tonight you're looking at a 5 game winless streak going into a 5 day break. That would be brutal.
It goes without saying, but we're a one-line team so far. Guys like Okposo, Bailey and Comeau all have to play with a little more intensity. Okposo's really disappointed me so far. Rolston just sucks. Nothing but taking up cap space at this point.

Isles lose in OT on a bogus delay of game penalty. Tavares with a goal, but only 2 goals for the team on 37 shots.

Yeah, this season really starting to suck, and I'm (can't believe I already feel this way) thinking they need a real coach. There is no life on this team. The 3rd period was like a horrible joke.

On the flipside, a nice shutout for Pavelic and the Jets.

Was at the game tonight. The team started off slowly, but thoroughly outplayed the Caps in the 2nd and 3rd periods for a nice win. Parentau was great with a goal and 2 assists. DiPietro still stinks, but Vokoun was worse for Washington.

It was Military Appreciation Night at the Coliseum, so there were lots of clean-cut young men and women in uniform in attendance. I had my entire family there (including both kids and my father), so that was nice. I was sitting only one row away from where my season tickets were for 14 years, so that brought back fond memories of multiple Cups.

This is why I refused to get excited early on. Sigh.
