I thought the reason they are re-doing spider man was for the Avengers movie ... but it turns out not .. Spider Man (the first Toby McGuire movie) was one of my favorite super hero movies of all time, 2 and 3 were shit. I still see no reason to relaunch the franchise.

Aside from The Dark Knight, Spider-Man 2 is the clear cut best superhero film out of the (Marvel/DC) world out there with Xmen 2 and Batman Begins being the only one not that far behind.

Have no idea what they did with SM-3...Could be a studio thing with them pressuring Sam Raimi to add all those villians. He never wanted to do Venom.

I'll wait to see how it goes. I was an off and on spider-man fan as a kid. I hated all of the Tobey Maguire movies. I felt like the writers looked around at the post-9/11 situation and said, "we need to make this really pro-USA" and copied some quotes out of Bush speeches and called it a script. Tobey Maguire picked up on the dorkiness of Peter Parker but completely failed to deliver the deeper sense of moral duty Peter has. Part of that is his fault, part is leaving it out of the script. It felt like a CGI-infected acted out version of the 70s spider-man cartoons.

I need to rewatch Spiderman 2. The 3 times I have seen it, once in theater and couple times after, I don't see the love it gets from a lot of people.

I am excited for this one. I never liked the last actor who played Spiderman so I always wished someone else would play him. Didn't expect a new movie would come out so soon. The main complaint of negative reviews I have read seems to be this is a reboot and I can get over that.
