Been to both. They are both good. You can get take out, which is definitely good, but as is the case with most eateries, dining in is recommended. As the poster above me noted, their nachoes are the shit. They're a meal in itself. The two meat combos with a couple of sides are money, too. As far as BBQ on the Island, top choice. Big Daddy's (more cajun, tho) is the fucking bomb. I've eaten there many times and go, I live about a 10-15 min. drive, just to get the gumbo which they make differently every day. Try both places.

The thing I don't like about Smoking Al's is that every time I've been in there for lunch or dinner 80% of the people in the place are morbidly obese. The place is the capital if gluttony... the food is okay, the staff seemed nice, the parking (in Pequa at least) is awful, but I just can't get past the fact that these huge people are there just stuffing their faces with massive portions of fat and doing the same to their massively fat children.

I get take-away.

Bidg Daddy's is good.

Holy crapoly, I am stuffed.

We stated with some appetizers. The nachos with brisket was the bomb, and that right there is enough food to feed two humans for dinner. The hush puppies were very good with a maple sauce. The deep fried pickles were better than I was expecting, and again the dipping sauce was good.

Baby backs were very tasty and cooked to perfection, and while the brisket was tender, it wasn't as tasty as the other meats were. The pulled pork was delicous and the pulled chicken even better. Sides were fab, loved the cole slaw and baked beans.

Sweet potato fries were average at best. Second thing I did after getting home and letting the dog out was to get rid of my belt and put on a pair of shorts with an elastic wasteband. We have at least enough in doggie bags to get another fat boy meal out of it. I never even got through a third of my main course. No one came close to finishing their main course. Maybe half of it at best.

As for the the other diners, on this occassion I did not notice any disprproportion of obese cows grazing in the place. Eat here often enough, and you will join their ranks however.

One in our party is visiting from TX, and of course this place didn't measure up to TX BBQ. What do they know? I thought it was great.

Thanks for the replies.

Have been to Bayshore, not Pequa yet.

But I am a big fan of Big Daddys, great food, strong drinks, fun time. Don't usually get the BBQ I can't say no to blacked fish which is usually on the menu.

I am thinking of going down tto Big Daddys to pre-game next Monday, they have all you can eat fried chicken and ribs.

I would suggest checking out Swingbelly's in Long Beach. It's out of the way, and Labor Day has passed, but it's still great beach weather for another month.

Besides having really good pulled pork and Carolina style BBQ, they have great sides and a pretty decent bourbon and craft beer selection and great happy hours and specials. Great food after a day at the beach.

I'm still stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey.

Will have to check out Big Daddy's sometime.

Long Beach? Only if someone wants to be the designated driver. I have a friend with a boat... do they have a dock?

No, it's on the main strip, not like Island Park or Point Lookout. Definitely in need of a designated driver for that one.

Big Daddy's is in Massapequa Park not far from the LIRR station. It's west of the Sunrise Mall just north of Sunrise Hwy. It's pretty small, but definitely one of my favorite restaurants around. Their gumbo is epic. Things like jambalaya, blackened catfish, muffelettas, andouille sausage, cajun stuff, etc. Menu changes everyday and they have all bbq and po-boy stuff, too. I highly recomment their Sunday jazz brunch. Andouille hash, 4 egg omelets, eggs benedict, jalepeno biscuits with sausage grave. Free drink with it. Fuckin' place is great.

Love Smokin Al's.

You have to induldge your "inner glutton" and get the mound of onion rings before even hitting the main course.

Not as good as Al's, but not bad. The rib tips appetizer wase very good, served over fries which were surprisingly good as well. They serve "chopped pork", which is no where as good as Al's pulled pork. The St Loius ribs were good. Excellent cole slaw and mac and cheese. The string onions were meh. One thing that was better than Al's was the brisket. It was a little on the dry side at Al's, this was better.
