Default Jets first-round pick Kyle Wilson throws out first pitch at Citi Field

Quote:
NEW YORK – In the whirlwind that followed his first-round selection by the Jets, Piscataway-native Kyle Wilson received an opportunity to play for a team that was “exactly where I wanted to go,” Wilson said from inside the Citi Field dugout on Sunday night.

He received a phone call from defensive leader Kris Jenkins, who rang Wilson to “make sure I was focused and understood what was coming.” Wilson told him they were on the same page.

On Sunday night at Citi Field, Wilson, a former Boise State cornerback, received a Mets jersey with his name on the back. He threw out the first pitch here as the Mets faced Atlanta.

His toss was low and away to right fielder Jeff Francoeur. Wilson never played much baseball as a kid. Football took up all his time. He won three state titles at Piscataway High.

For Rex Ryan's Jets, Wilson is expected to play in nickel situations and return punts.

“I know nothing’s handed to me,” Wilson said. “So I’m just looking for the opportunity to go out there and make plays and fight for a spot. However much playing time I get is how much I earn.”
pretty cool. Sanchez did it last year.

Does anyone else love this quote as much as I do?

yeah I do, again we grab a kid who doesn't want shit handed to him. He wants to prove it, not just to himself, but to the coaching staff, his teammates and everyone in the NFL for passing on him.

How the hell does Tanny keep managing to get his hands on these kids? It's just not fair to our opponents...

He pays very close attention during the interview process. Between Tannenbaum and Clinkscales, we have two great evaluators of personality.

Damn...why does every Jet always are assumed to be Mets fans. Sanchez now Wilson.. i mean i like the Mets but im a die hard Yanks fan and just wish they could throw the first pitch ata Yankee game.

I understand the Shea connection but that was long ago.

Yeah, seriously. They need to get over this Mets-Jets connection, and act more neutral.

I do love how plenty of Jets players are seen with Yankees caps though.

I like how Jenkins called him to make sure he was on the right page like that, I really cannot wait to see Kris back out there.

Edit: Does anyone have a video of the pitch?

What are the records of both teams in this short season so far?

Pissed that I missed out on it. Don't watch very many Met games but I had a lot of fantasy players involved in the game and have been watching it. I'll ave to check it out on Youtube.

The Yankee fans couldn't figure that out by themselves.

No worries, Rex is a huge Yankee fan so I think we are okay as long as the head coach embraces a team with a winning mentality.
