Default So..if you have a pre-slim PS3, don't turn it on.

I'm not posting this in video games intentionally because theres little if any traffic over there. If you've got one of the older PS3's, you're currently victim of a leap year bug...or that's the going theory. Here's all Sony is saying about it: To view links in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. Your post count is 0 momentarily.

Meantime, you can't play any of your single player games that have trophy compatibility, you can use the web browser but not log into PSN, because whatever happened is keeping you off network probably until Sony sends a patch.

Here's where i've been getting my updates. It pisses me off that I can't play mag on my night off. To view links in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. Your post count is 0 momentarily.

I really hope this is something that is fixed quick and will not cost us any money.

Yea, its not affecting the slim.

Only reason Im pissed off is because I rarely get a chance to play, and tonight I have a few hours and this happens.

So, will I be able to download an update from Sony automatically? You know, when I finally turn it on, and go to system update.

^^^ Last night.

It could be an internal clock that got fucked up with leap years.

This seems logical

Quote:
Well the gist is that the ARM SYSCON CPU that is used to power up the front panel of the ps3, that is responsible for doing things like sleep mode, eject, RTC etc. Is an old batch that sony picked up from the shelf like other manufacturers that has that calendar year bug regarding feburary 29th on certain periods. Causing the ps3 system clock and the real time clock to desync, messing up security measures like Digital Rights management software and sometimes games that relies on clocks for whatever reason. As well as signing up to the playstation network... This CPU is always on even when your PS3 isn't plugged
This problem is also happening with various of test Ps3 models, particulary the ones that has the emotion engine cpu/gpu for ps2 dev.

This is the one of the same type of CPUs that is powering up mobile devices like zune and blackberries, they have been affected with this bug, so they done some software patches. A syscon update can also fix this problem

The Slims ps3s aren't affected because they use a newer up to date revision on the syscon cpu that fixes this bug.

A quick way to fix this is to remove the RTC battery for at least 5-10 min and plug it back in, you will see the date and time reset, and voila...
Dont know where the battery is, or how to remove it. Best bet is to leave your PS3 off till Sony comes out and says something.

it only affects games that have trophies and thus have to log into your pSN account to function.

Probably.

A huge problem with what appears to be related to the internal clock took down many PS3’s on Sunday evening. The situation is approaching where the games to be released on Tuesday, including MLB 10: The Show, could be unplayable for a large number of gamers. The issue at hand prevents the console from connecting to PSN and keeps games that support trophies from being played even offline.

The slim PS3 models appear to be in the clear but the most of the original models are afflicted with the problem. One popular theory is that the PS3 could flip over to a real date of March 1st, after believing today is the non-existent February 29th, at 7et/4pt tonight. In that scenario the consoles may start working again.

If it doesn’t happen on its own in that manner Sony may be pressed to release a firmware update or lead into serious questions as to whether the consoles will be fixable at all and a recall may be in order. Reports are that even developer debug kits are out of commission which could end up in delays and other complications for projects in the works should the issue linger. All told this situation has the potential of being absolutely disastrous.

MLB 09: The Show is completely disabled and MLB 10 would likely face the same result when attempting to play. Sony has stated they are working on the problem though citing no specifics and there is no guarantee that anything will be resolved in time for when The Show makes it out to consumers in under 24 hours.

This also would do major damage to MLB 2K10’s $1 million contest for throwing a perfect game. PS3 users who had planned to buy for that reason could pass on it knowing that the feat may be achieved by a 360 user before even being able to fire up their copy or connect online (a requirement in order to qualify).

So, for those of you who have been eagerly awaiting MLB 10: The Show, what are you going to do if your PS3 is inoperable? Wait it out? Buy a slim PS3? Get MLB 2K10 for the Xbox 360? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Wow that sucks...

What happened to the days when all we needed to do was to blow into the cartridge to get it to work?

dont wanna start this trend again but i remember creating that thread about which console i should get...i ended up buying PS3 over xbox 360...and i have to say i am the happiest guy there is.

the playstation network is perfectly fine the way it is, which was my key concern. PS3's capabilities blow away xbox as far as the features
