I finally read an article that talked about why TJ is wanting a new contract. He is do 6mil for 2010 and he knows he will be cut, so he wants to renegotiate on that premis. Couldn't tell you if its true but if the Jets could find a way to restructure him in order to keep him for a couple more years that would be fine by me as a fan. I wouldn't mind sweetening the deal for him but not by much, just a token for his hard work, if he has to break the bank on the Jets and nothing else will do, then he plays or holds out this Sept. on his current contract and the Jets cut or trade him next offseason. I think he has at least two to three years of tread left and having that three headed RB monster in place for a few years would be a good thing. Any thoughts?

Another RB thread. And we need to resign Leon and Mangold as well as the rookies before we do anything with an aging RB

At the end of the day they will convert next years bonus to salary this year, and even out his cap figure to 3.5/3.5 (roughly). The contract was structured to protect the NYJ in case he didnt pan out. But he did. They cannot screw him, if they ever intend to get other free agents in the future, without overpaying.

Gee, Magic 8 ball...
Are you saying that because he is going to drop off, or because the other backs will cut into his carries...? I would bet that expressed as a percentage of carries, he gains the same yards, and scores the same TD's

If the numbers from that site are correct is does look like TJ will get cut next year. But if next year is capless that could change a lot. Maybe thats why the Jets did the contract that way, they expected next year to be cap less all along. Maybe the Jets should offer him the deal Lavernues was offered, where he agrees to be released in a way that lifts the cap burden from the Jets. Might be the best thing for everyone. |

if he just wants to renegotiate and tanny wants to keep him around something will get worked out pretty easily. tanny is a cap genius after all.

We're not going to release him this year. The only reason Coles got that deal is because his entire contract was guaranteed. We have TJ for only 900k of new money this season. He's not going anywhere unless it's part of a trade. Next year, he'll be gone and we'll swallow the $1.5 million cap hit. |

My thoughts on this are that the contract was poorly structured, almost guaranteed to create this crisis in 2009, and that the Jets should just ignore him for the moment and deal with the other contractual things they need to get done.
If they find at the end of that process that they have some money left over to make Jones happy, by shifting some of the 2010 money to 2009 then I have no problem with that. Really the Jets are in the drivers seat here and they should just sit back and relax and do their best not to inflame the situation further until they have a better grasp of where their cap is going to be once Sanchez is signed and Washington gets his extension, etc. If they wind up making "line in the sand" type comments, as they did with Kendall, they'll regret it before they're done. |

Yes I created a new thread, that is what a forum is for, discussion of topics. If you have already discussed this one then don't chime in, this is for people that either haven't yet discussed the topic or people still interested. If your not into it simply move on to another thread. I intend to post a new thread on any questions or topics I feel like discussing.

f- him.
did he deserve 6 million his first year with us?? let him play out or sit out and if he sit's out the year, his career is over. he has ZERO leverage and the jets need to take a stand because a new player does this every year to us. |

And forums are for discussions, not creating a thread that already exists five times. Feel free to create a thread named "Reason for Leon's Holdout" |
