1. Blitzing works.
Good things happen when you hit the QB. And bad things happen when you don't. So next week, send as many as you need to until the QB is repeatedly pushed, and pressured and pummeled. Sitting back isn't working...it's turning journeyman into 300 yard passers. If it ain't working, CHANGE IT. 2. Leon Washington is Brian Westbrook-In-Waiting. So stop WAITING to make this guy a major thrust of your offense. He gets one carry and he takes it to the house. So he never gets another? Please open your eyes, then your mind. This kid is one of the few, maybe the only explosive player on your team. He can make a difference. 3. Send in the Clowneys. OK, maybe this is the only other explosive player on the roster. We don't have much to go on, but what we've seen suggests SPEED of the variety we haven't seen this year. Start him, send him, stretch the field, watch your whole offense improve. 4. If the other team's return guy is leading the league, don't kick it to him. I have never understood why teams just don't belt the kick hard and low and let the unnatural bounces of the oblong take their toll on the carefully hatched plans of the special teams. Think about it: Isn't kicking the ball straight to Leon Washington in the air just what Mike Westhoff wants to happen? Isn't that what he's arranged all his blocking for? Why give them the ball on a silver platter the way they want it? I remember the 49ers kicker, Ray Wersching? back in the Montana days, just destroying somebody...maybe Cincy in the first Super Bowl, with squib quick after squib, and they couldn't adjust. Isn't this something worth trying?

I agree with all. Except I hate the squib -- one of the Jet head coaches used to do that all the time -- and let the other team start at the 40 every possession. Cant recall which one. If the team philosphy is not to blitz and to prevent the big play -- im okay with that especially because we dont have the fasted LB's in the game. BUT NOT EVERY PLAY. You have to let Rhode/Elam go at least a few times. Otherwise you make mediocre qbs like losman and unproven qbs like Hill look like they are HOFers. |

Calling washington westbrook is premature but we should give him the ball more. I dont get the whole clowney thing sure he has is fast but really hasnt proven anything yet. I take clowney over smith but thats becuase smith is a bust as a wr. Its too bad clowney cant play special teams

I definitely want to see more of Clowney. He can be a legitimate deep threat that will re-open things for Keller and Baker and the WR's over the middle.

Not only will we never use Leon more, he will just go to some other team when his contract is up and make them really dangerous.

He could be doing more for this team with another 5 balls thrown and another 5 touches running.

Clowney was in there on special teams, I saw him on the punt and kickoff teams almost every time. He didn't make any spectacular lays but he did play on the unit.

walker had 70+ TDs and over 20YPC avg over his career with 400+ receptions -- that was scary explosive!!
Mangini said in an interview yesterday leon won't get the ball more because the other option is thomas jones and he will get the rock......screen passes work for us and leon is a master at them

Toon wasn't a game breaker like Leon Washington. Toon was the most complete receiver we ever had in my opinion. Wesley Walker was definitely an explosive game breaker. Good call.

I wholeheartedly agree with every point in this post. I might add that the most important is #1, the blitz. If we hound the hell out of the opposing QB it's pretty obvious the pressure can create turnovers in the backfield and secondary.
Why Sutton and Mangini want to go against conventional football widsom is beyond me. Are they TRYING to lose their jobs? |

Pisses me off every time I see the shotgun, especially in downs that are not CLEAR passing downs.

It takes away so many other options and hasn't worked in fooling/stretching the defenses at all, so let's stop freaking doing it. |

What about...when you are dominating a team and scoring points continue to do whats working. Instead of laying down and expecting them to quit playing.

Mangina should study the Steeler defense during the week! But unfortunately he is to busy eating! Him and Jenkins are must be having a contest or something. I think he is winning!
