Default Abram Elam

Two solid perfomances in a row....IMO he keeps the starting spot until he shows he shouldn't have it...

discuss

I Thought from the seasons start Elam should of been the starter he bring alot of passion and plays hard every down and he's proven me right the last 2 games. Great Sack he killed bulger on that one.

I mentioned this a couple of times in the game thread.

I saw a feature this morning and earlier read a little about him spending time studying film with Revis and Rhodes.

While he still has issues in coverage (one major reason why we don't see him as the lone deep man very often), he is definitely learning the subtleties of the game, and improving tremendously.

Lulling the offense into a false sense of security (sitting back in his zone before breaking on the route on the INT last week- backing off after showing blitz on his strip-sack this week) is the number one way to assure that you will have a chance at making a big play.

Good players understand this. Revis and Rhodes use this strategy all the time. Elam is starting to learn it.

The thing is, most of us can see he should start over Smith, even when Smith returns from his head injury or whatever it is.

But does Mangini see it?

i'm pretty sure after this week Elam had to have garner Mangini's serious consideration.

I don't know... The kid needs to do something- he hasn't progressed much (at all) since week 1....

He shows flashes, but gets picked on more than any CB should..

Yeah, I'm not sure what Smith is doing in practice that's elevated him over Elam. Whatever it is, he definitely hasn't done it in real games the way Elam has. Elam at least looks like a starting calibre player based on his production. Smith looks more like a back up that is forced into starting out of necessity. The kid has definitely earned PT...

Should Feely stay as a starter too?
Nugent wouldn't have made that 55 yarder.

He should. He has always been more physicaly talented then Smith, but has made some real bonheaded mistakes in the past. If he can continue to come up with big plays while not making any glaring errors the Job should be his.

elam's sak wasn't all 'that' good. no tomohawk chop, just a blind side collision that panned out. plus bulger got leg-whipped by his own farm hand. very nice to see. any-hoo how nice was it to see bulger walking to the sideline with his chin strap over his nose!!!!
