Default This may start some arguments: Mangini #2 "Coach you don't want to play for"

I was watching Inside the NFL on Showtime and there was a survey done of all NFL players: Coaches you want to play for and Coaches you don't want to play for...... Eric Mangini was the #2 Coach you DON'T want to play for.

That just sucks. I'm not angry or upset, I'm not even in an "I told you so" mood. I just shrug my shoulders and want to know why in the hell that is. What the hell is going on?

The Players said this, not the media, not analysts. The guys on the field.

Why?

No link, sorry. If you can find the episode or the survey help me out. This is not made up.

Here are the Two Lists: Survey Done in 2007

Coach Most Want to Play For:

Dungy
Lovie Smith
Belichick
Herm Edwards
Mike Tomlin

Coaches Least Want to play for:
T. Coughlin
Mangini
Gruden
Petrino
Belichick.

The list doesn't tell the whole story of incompetence or winning, but overall philosophy of who the HC is. I just think this sucks that the players don't want to play for Mangini.

Have Fun.

Well other than Petrino, all the others are hard nose coaches that have won superbowls. So if thats who Mangini wants to model himself after thats cool with me. Now it's a matter of emulating their intelligent game adjustments.

Conversely, they probably want to play for Belibitch because his "game tapes" make life easier on them and Herm takes his guys for ice cream after every game no matter the outcome. Who doesn't like ice cream

Herm Edwards? What the hell? The players want to be under a guy who can't win?

I'm Not surprised. Over the past 3 years the Jets have been involved in bizarre player disputes. look how they handled Pete Kendell, Chris Baker, Kevin Mawae and even they way the cut Pennington was classless. I know Tannenbaum can be thrown under the bus for all these things, but the bottom line is no player is gonna get mis treated if the coach doesn't allow it to happen. I don't think its hard nose coaching that makes players stay away i think has allot more to do with how they feel there treated by the organization.

Dungy, Smith, and Tomlin are also considered laid back dudes. Coughlin, Gruden, and Petrino not so much.

3 of the 5 "least want to play for" have a Championship this decade.

Im sure Bill P. was just a joy to play for. (Although, he'd be my coach -- if i had to start a team --- or go from 1-15)

4 of the 5. Don't discount Mangini's contribution.

When I first saw the thread, I was worried. When I saw the company Mangini kept, I was relieved. I'd have to guess that about 60 to 70 percent of players in the NFL could give a shit about winning a championship; they just want to a) get paid to do something they love to do b) get paid to have fun or c) just plain get paid. It's these players that now populate the mediocre teams in the NFL like the Raiders, Chiefs and Bengals and fill out the rosters on every other team.

I'm sure Herm Edwards is just about the best boss you could hope to have. IF you don't mind losing and just want to have a happy work week.

Guys who would not want to play for Belicheck, Caughlin or Mangini and would like to play for Herm are not guys I'd want on my squad for obvious reasons.

I am surprised Mike Holmgren isn't on the list for coaches guys would like to play for.

He's a laid back dude who has won everywhere he goes (with this present season excepted). Holmgren is a top offensive mind that has worked with some of the best players and coaches in the game. I'd think he'd be regarded highly in the league.

Funny how three of those coaches, Coughlin, Mangini and Belicheck, all come from the Parcells tree.

Player's coach, does "Camp Marshmallow" ring a bell?

If Bobby Bonilla was a football player, he would probably love to play for Edwards.

Pretty much. The inclusion of Edwards means that list fails.

Herm only won playoff games and a Division crown.

Mangini got coffee for Parcells.

Makes sense.
