Default Declare Yourself: Brett Favre

I'm just curious to see what percentage of this forum is processing information rationally.

he's a better option than chad and kellen clemens could use some seasoning. it's a no-brainer as long as we get rid of chad.

Yes for sure. He is better than anything we have at QB.

Depends what they have to give up. We should not sell draft picks for this guy.

If we knew compensation, this would be easier to answer.

My yes vote comes with a caveat, that it can be done without putting our cap in hoc for the next three seasons. Assuming we can make that work, I'd pull the trigger, trade Penny to one of the many QB hungry teams and take my chances....

Absolutely. QB is the weak link right now. Favre changes that completely.

I was initially saying NO, but the more I think about it, trading Penny and letting Kellen learn/watch from a HOF QB can never be a bad thing. It's not like Favre would lock us up into a long term committment while we have Kellen sitting for 5 years. Take a shot at him. With what's been assembled this offseason I could envision him making us a legitimate playoff contender this year, and maybe next, before handing the reins off to Kellen...

By all accounts, the salary cap is increasing almost exponentially over the next few seasons. Favre will not jeopardize the Jets' ability to make other signings in any significant way.

My guess is the Jets will have to give up a 2nd or 3rd-rounder. It's hard to tell at this point.

So far, 79% of the forum is rational. That's not so bad.

Like I said before, I'd give up a first, because unlike Chellen Clemington, HE GIVES US A CHANCE TO WIN THE SUPERBOWL

There is at least 1 uncapped year coming soon. Cap is not an issue.

I'm assuming you don't work in business / play poker / flip coins / solve differential functions in calculus, because if you had an iota of statistical understanding, you'd realize that the goal of any organization is to increase winning probability.

I was on the fence but when I realized it means Chad will never be behind center for the NYJ, I am all in.

I've got a wild idea. It might sound stupid, but here goes.

Tampa made it to the playoffs last year, losing to the eventual super bowl winners. They are a better destination for Favre. However, what would that mean for Garcia? He doesn't want to be a 38 year old backup, when he's proven he can bring a team to the playoffs. He did it with the Eagles when everyone was counting him out and and he did again with the Bucs.

Garcia, like Favre, would bring a wily old vet with unparalled enthusiasm for the game. Unlike Favre however, he plays a more ball-controlled offense and takes much less chances. He only had 4 interceptions last year, in 13 games. I think his style of play would be perfect for our offense because we want to return to smash-mouth football. He doesn't throw games away like our current vet. Along with his experience he brings a cannon of an arm and decent mobility for a guy his age. Plus, his intangibles > PennyBoys intangibles. He willed the Eagles to 5 consecutive wins into the playoffs and won the first round. He came up 3 points short against the Saints. He's also got the tough skin to handle critics, he could handle New York.

So where am I going with this? Ok this is where it gets a little wild. Garcia says he wants a new contract. However, he'd still be LOADS cheaper than Favre. So, send Favre to the Bucs, cuz they think they have what it takes to go the distance. Send us Jeff Garcia, who at 38 throws much stronger than Pennington. We send the Bucs whatever pick(s) make them happy for Garcia, to help them pay for Favre.

Ok, end rant.
