Default Adrian Peterson Declares

Oklahoma junior running back Adrian Peterson will skip his final year of eligibility and enter the NFL Draft, according to two sources close to the situation.

An official announcement could come as early as Thursday.

Peterson, who is projected in several mock drafts as a top 10 pick, met with Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops on Wednesday to notify Stoops of his intention to turn pro, according to one source.

Another source said Peterson has met with agents, including Eugene Parker, Drew Rosenhaus and the Creative Artists Agency, whose NFL division is headed by agents Ben Dogra and Tom Condon.

The deadline for underclassmen to declare themselves eligible for the NFL Draft is Monday.

Peterson, the 2004 Heisman Trophy runner-up from Palestine, Texas, battled shoulder and ankle injuries and a broken collarbone during his three seasons at OU. But he'll leave the school with 4,045 yards and 41 career touchdowns, putting him among the best running backs in school history.

Inside the OU athletic department, it's been widely believed that Peterson would leave the school after his junior year. He never hinted what direction he was leaning in the days leading up to the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, though.

Peterson missed the second half of the season with a broken collarbone. Still, he entered the bowl game needing just 151 yards to break the school's all-time rushing record.

Peterson had 77 yards on 20 carries against the Broncos in a 43-42 overtime loss. His 4,045 yards rushing ranks third on OU's all-time list behind Billy Sims (4,118 yards) and Joe Washington (4,071).

Adrian Peterson has 4,045 yards and 41 touchdowns in his career at Oklahoma.

One of the country's top recruits out of high school, Peterson didn't disappoint. He rushed for 1,925 yards and 15 touchdowns as a freshman despite battling shoulder problems. Peterson became the first freshman to finish second in the Heisman Trophy voting.

A nagging ankle injury slowed Peterson as a sophomore. But he still rushed for 1,108 yards. This season, Peterson had 935 yards before breaking his collarbone six games into the season against Iowa State. He suffered the injury by diving into the end zone on a 53-yard touchdown run.

Wow.It will be interesting to see where he goes.It just shows how good this guy is that he was out the whole year and will still most likely be a top 10 pick because of his awesome talent.

He is going to be a bust. He runs upright too much, and is extremely injury prone. He just cant stay healthy, and that is a must for the NFL. In no way do I doubt his ability, or skill. I just think he will be another victim to the injury bug.
