Man City and the Yankees bought the 20th expansion team in MLS, called New York City FC...I think I will be ditching the Red Bulls.
It makes sense to me.

Im a avid Yankees fan, live in NYC and I like the Man City colors...First time Im making the switch on a team.

Still will root for Red Bulls till then

Eh I think Man City will be way more involved. I think the Yankees have the resources to make the club standout, like the YES network and what not.

I wouldnt go too crazy, but you know Red Bulls need some fans as they havent been drawing. I am sure you will root for this NYCFC team when its time...Especially if these guys play in one of the boroughs it will be packed

Not a fan of MLS and I haven't even watched 1 full game since I have started living in the USA but why is there a huge support for Seattle and Portland teams but little support for other teams like New England etc?

I read an article about the rivalry between Seattle and Portland and this sounds like a real soccer rivalry.

At a guess, because that region has not a lot of other major professional sports franchises - no NHL, no NBA, only one NFL and one MLB team. Plenty of money up there as well. Don't know about immigrant count, generally MLS teams do well where there are large immigrant populations.

The lack of professional sports teams makes sense. In the article I read majority of the supporters looked like Americans. Didn't see many Latino's in the pictures. Their rivalry is turning into something real I guess. Good for them and MLS

Portland and Seattle = tons of hipsters. Hipsters sport of choice tends to be soccer or hockey.

I'll support the NASL cosmos, I cannot get behind anything related to the Yankees.

Not all immigrants are Latino. Toronto has a lot of European immigrants who make up a significant part of TFC's fanbase.

hate the Yankees too, but a City fan as well. I'll have to see how this pans out. If they wind up in Queens i'll probably be an NYCFC fan, but if they are too indentified with the yanks, i.e playing their home games there or anything I may stick with the Red Bulls on tv and check out the Cosmos games live.

This rivalry goes back to the 1970's and the NASL. Good wiki on it here:

New England is a POS team that's why they don't get much support.

For as much as Kraft cares about the Pats that's how little he cares about the Revs. They're the Miami Marlins but playing in a parking lot rather than a shiny new stadium. The field always has the football lines, is in the middle of nowhere, and is the completely wrong surface for soccer. It's so bad even the good players avoid the stadium due to the playing surface.

Everyone seems to be getting their own SSS while the Revs continue to play in a dump in the middle of nowhere while the owner is "looking" to get essentially free land in order to build a stadium......maybe.

Team would be better off in the hands of the Red Sox owners and playing at Fenway despite the obvious issues.

That's a good observation, especially as Fenway Sports already have an idea what they're doing with soccer teams through their ownership of Cesspool.

The city of Portland also has a rich tradition on the college level as the University of Portland has won 18 NCAA Championships between their men's and women's program. Kasey Keller, Steve Cherundolo and Connor Casey played there as did Megan Rapinoe on the women's national team.

Uggghhhhh...... don't remind me of the decline of Liverpool since the Americans decided to get involved. Started with that asshole Glazer and now Fenway. It's sad but I want some Russian Billionare or some shiek to buy the team.
