Another possibility might be that he wants to eradicate the perception that he's more of a running/option QB than a pocket-passer. Although it sounds silly to consider how public perception could affect athletes (specifically someone as popular and used to the media/critics/etc as Tebow is), it's not THAT far-fetched. I remember McNabb wanted to change that very same public perception of his style. I'm almost certain Cam Newton has mentioned it too. (I don't have any quotes or citations, but I'm pretty sure I heard those sentiments from each of them).

Anyway, we don't know enough at the moment because the Jets Offense has been a Rubix Cube this Preseason, and Tebow hasn't shown much progress for numerous reasons.
Good points.

He will get ton of practice reps as a backup and I'm sure they'll use him as a scout QB a lot since the Jets have had trouble with QB's who can make plays with their legs (Big ben ). He can work on his motion and footwork without actually having to deal with negative results hurting the team. If he spends all year imrpvoing them, when eventually thrown in the fire in in a couple years he will be thinking less and reacting more with better mechanics.

At least thats the plan. Not sure if it will happen
You might be shocked to hear that I agree with you

In my view, Tebow doesn't care what other people's perceptions are .

I still think he's an unnecessary headache (not him per se, but what follows him around).
I still think he can help the Jets win games in various roles.
I still think he has no business as a starting QB right now, and thus, he's nowhere near Sanchez's job.
I still think he has a mountain of flaws to correct, and I don't know if he'll ever correct them.
I still think he's a good player and a good teammate.

I thought all of these things before Tebow arrived, and nothing has transpired to change my thinking.

And trust me, he definitely won't be my favorite player on the Jets, not now and not at the Season's end.
Its a long season..
