Don't blame the Jets players on the o-line, blame Rex Ryan and the front office.

This was an o-line last year with the worst RT in football, a below average LG, a RG who is really getting up there in age and is slowing down, and a LT who I believe actually gave up quite a large amount of sacks, and a center is a pro bowler but couldn't stay healthy, and no depth.

And what did the front office do about it? Absolutely nothing. How they dont attempt to seriously make a move at RT, while also leaving the rest of the line the same, and also not adding any quality depth is unacceptable. You knew what you were going to get out of those players, so dont blame them. It isn't their fault they've been thrown back in there in the same conditions.

Some of the things that have been done with the Jets recently smack of outright sabotage, although it's probably not intentional. You can either stay with what got you wherever you happen to be and get there again kind of repetitively or you can change direction and hope that the next plateau is better.

The issue on the Jets right now is two-fold: first, when they're in an up year it's not a great year just a good one. The Jets have had two seasons in the last decade that an elite team would be happy to own: 2004 and 2010. They've had a couple of other seasons where things broke just right despite some real miscues along the way: 2002 and 2009. 2006 was a mirage sandwiched by two 4-12 seasons that no elite team would ever have to go through.

The second issue is that the team just does not develop and manage talent well. If they get a very good player the odds are about even that he'll wind up out of town by his prime as that he'll be a contributor for the Jets.

Santana Moss, Laveranues Coles, Randy Thomas, Kareem McKenzie, John Abraham, Erik Coleman, Jonathan Vilma, Kerry Rhodes, Leon Washington, that's a lot of homegrown talent that slipped away over the years.

We're looking at Sanchez and Greene and Keller as three more guys that are slipping away now because the Jets can't get their act together on offense and so none of the three is going to be worth as much to the Jets as they will elsewhere.

The franchise is just way too frisky with talent. They make bets on aging stars that they bring in and they don't bet heavily enough on their own young guys. Job one for any elite franchise this last off-season would have been to get Sanchez back on track because without him the Jets have no Super Bowl chances at all.

Instead the Jets got frisky and brought in Tebow while they simultaneously ignored the flaws on the offensive line that caused a lot of last year's problems. They let the WR situation degrade again by bringing in a bunch of new guys but not a single person they could count on to be a top receiver this year.

There is not a single veteran wide receiver on the Jets this year that can just be counted on to do his job. Other than Holmes none of these guys has started anything close to a full season.

I get that bringing in the vets last year didn't help much but the Jets were bringing in a guy who had not played in 2+ years and a 37 year old guy. Give me a break here. Just because you brought in the wrong vets last year doesn't excuse you from the obligation to put professional wide receivers on the field this year.

Interesting. I lurked on hear so I had less of a reason to remember then. I just didn't think it made sense. Looking back now, yeah we should have never kept him but I don't think there were very many options? That was before the "lockout" where our #2CB, and 2 wide receivers were FA's. The Jets clearly misprioritized that offseason.

They could have cut him this offseason and missed the kicker but didn't.

His drop off from 2011 to 2012 was not expected. From a fan's prespective seeing games only, I can see why the Jets thought he could become a starter. But the team shouldn't have made a mistake like this.

I don't think it's a myth that Hunter filled in solidly for Woody when he went down in 2010-2011. Still think cutting him before 2010-2011 would have tough but after 2011-2012 should have been an easier decision

I'd agree if there were lots of good free agents on the market that we could afford, or if there was anyone that could make a difference for us this year in the draft. It wasn't really a good off season for offensive tackles. Keeping Hunter is better than cutting him and having no suitable replacement. I still say it will eventually be Slauson.
