The 07 team fell off the cliff but he did assemble a team in 08 which after 11 games, before Favre got hurt was arguably as good as any team in the league with a legit shot at the SB. The 09 team with a rookie QB almost got there again. By 10 we were already in decline but the team made another solid run.

The team has deteriorated badly but Tanny in a very short time put the NY Jets in contention at the very moment the new stadium was ready. He did everything any NFL owner could ever ask for.

It's very difficult for any GM to rebuild twice particularly in a market like NY. The drafting of 2 failed franchize QB's the Tebow move and the overall deterioration of the O leaves the team in need of a serious rebuild. I simply can't see how Tanny and Rex can do it again. We simply have to many contracts to eat and we need to hit a few home runs in the draft along with starting all over looking for a franchise QB. Ultimately Tannenbaums major failure was his inability to replace Pennington between 06 and 12 that's a long run without a decent QB option.
he wasn't great, but he wasn't as awful as many want to make him out to be. he thought we were closer to a championship caliber team than we were, and made decisions based on that, which led t o the Sanchez extension. he thought we just needed the cap space to add a few free agents to improve upon last year, except Sanchez never deserved the extension and wasn't worth what we saved. that alone reflects Tanny's decision making abilities and warranted his firing.

Typical NYJ backward move hiring a new GM but keeping the present HC. This move will only lead to strife between the new GM & RR keeping the NYJs as dregs of the NFL

WOODY IS NOW 0-13 IN BRINGING A NYJ CHAMPIONSHIP TO THE NY/NJ/CT METRO AREA.

At least we're not the KC Chefs? (To be fair though, the BBQ at Arrowhead is really, really impressive).

Why are we not? 44 years without winning a SB whereas the KCC are only 43 years removed from winning a SB. We are drafting #9 right that makes us one of the dregs of the league

This is an excellent and accurate evaluation of Tannenbaum. Besides his major failure regarding the QB replacement, he also strayed from what he does best... control contracts. The most recent example is the contract Sanchez was given. Obscene, based upon his playing abilities. I remember asking myself, "Who does this?" This is as major a mistake as not finding the Chad replacement, IMO, and is Tanny's death knell. Nobody in theri right mind should have given this guy that much guaranteed.

The Chefs are standing pat with Pioli as their main exec. In the time he's been there, Pioli's teams have gone 4-12, 10-6, 7-9, and 2-14, yet, Hunt family is giving him another go at it.

As bad as he may be, even Woody Johnson wouldn't stand for that record. The Jets are trying to make positive changes. Albeit, not the wholesale change that you're looking for, but it's hard to deny that these are steps in some direction. Whether that direction is forward or back remains to be seen, but at least it's not standing pat with the same exec, but expecting different results.

People are so forgetful.
I think what people forget is what's going on now, and shouldn't worry about what he did with someone else's players three years ago.

This is a very good point, BUT......he gambled by sacrificing the future to "win now" and they didn't win. Now the price is being paid with a hamstrung cap, still no QB, and an organization filled with leaks.
