Been playing a lot of DOS games lately. Got into the Quest For Glory series

A while back I beat Kings Quest 6, I'd like to try the others, but from what I understand the 6th was the best. To view links in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. I got updated versions on sale through Steam, although here are a couple downloads. To view links in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. Your post count is 0 momentarily. There are also the older typing versions out there (think 1, 2, 3, and maybe 5), but I'm not crazy about that type. To view links in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. Anyway, I figure I'd start an old school DOS game thread. If you want to play some old dos games, you can download DOSBOX, which is a DOS emulator. Yeah, too bad they ruined it with the Larry Lovage games. Magna Cum Laude wasn't horrible, but a far cry from the Al Lowe games.
I enjoyed three, but it's hard to really know what the game wants when you have to type in what you want your guy to do. Sometimes you'd get stuck because you didn't type something the correct way. Looks like there's a vga remake of the first LSL, I'm going to give that a try. To view links in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. Your post count is 0 momentarily.

My parents didn't let my brother and I buy any games for our Genesis, so we had to play most games on the computer. The Wing Commander series was my favorite.

Kings Quest, Space Quest, and Police Quest were some of the first games I ever played on our old computer. I used to get so frustrated by them because you wouldn't know what to type or look for at times, and there was no where to get help back then.

There were cheat books that were sold at Software ETC and The Wiz, written by Sierra. I never would have gotten through the catacombs in Kings Quest 6 or the Desert in Kings Quest 5 without them.

Have you tried any of the below?
Master of Magic Master of Orion I, II (By Simtex, published by Microprose) Civilization II (Firaxis, or Microprose. I don't remember) Simcity 2000 (Firaxis) X-Com/X-Com TFTD (Microprose) Jagged Alliance --------------------------------------------------- If you like some Japanese taste to it: Romance of the Three Kingdoms I, II, III Uncharted Water I, II ----------------------------------------------------------------- Or try this: Nethack ADoM ================================================== ======== DOS games are still hands down better than those atrocious craps you see on the shelves of the game boutiques these days...

Panzer General (or Allied General, for that matter) anyone, these days?
If you are WWII buff, you'd appreciate that game even more. There is a limit to how many units you can have - so good composition of troops between land and air, and between infantry and mobile armor (land) and tac bombers and fighters (air) is crucial in achieving major victories.

Has some fan made updates of some KQ games and Maniac Mansion. Worth a peruse for oldskool adventure game fans.

The LSL and Police Quest games were my favorites back in the day. The early ones were difficult but once they switched to a mouse based point and click interface they got better.

They're actually remaking the LSL games. Al Lowe is back and they're going to try to remake all of them (new gfx and such) in order and then if they do well even make new ones.
