Look some of you have to get real....he's going to hold out. Let that be someone else's problem. Use that money to fortify position where the team needs the most help.
I don't think Woody, the team and probably alot of fans want to go through another protracted contract hold out.

You'll be back if/when we win the Superbowl acting as though you never left.

Weak. You're going to let the possible trade of ONE player force you to burn hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars and turning your loyalty to them? You're not a real fan.

why are we the only team in the league to trade our best players im so fucking done with this team, They can make asses of themselves on the field and offbut if your gonna trade our best player , Every 6 years or so the Jets trade away a pro bowler or a hall a famer, either that or they let him walk. Hugh Douglas,Farrior,Keyshawn,Vilma,John Abraham, now add Revis to that list

Revis will go somewhere else and become a legend for a diffrent team, He wont even be remembered for being a Jet when it's all said and done, Ive never been this mad before about the Jets ever, If they do this I don't think i will get over it and we aint winning a Superbowl without him, He is one of the main reasons we even got asfar as we did in the playoffs those years

Can you wait until we actually trade him before whining like a baby? If we aren't winning a Superbowl, you just wasted 1000 dollars. What a shame. It's not like we have another excellent corner back in Cromartie...Nope, Revis IS the New York Jets. Revis is the reason the world spins. You have a weird man fetish for Revis like Tebowites have for Tebow. Granted, Revis is a far better player than Tebow, but you have to think about the long term health of the franchise.

Just go. I bet you want to be a Patriots fan or something, so just go and cry to them. I'm sure they'll take you with open arms.

And he might get traded, the difference is Harris is still under contract for several years, Revis isn't. We wouldn't be hearing his if Revis was under contract for beyond 2013. I suspect the front office is peeved as well, considering that the REvis contract made him one of the highest paid players in football on average over the length of his contract, but it was heavily front paid. Now Revis will want out as the contract becomes club favorable for a new non favorable cap contract, which in effect makes his previous contract much higher in value than it was, instead of averaging 12-13 million if I recall, if he opts out it averaged to 17-18 million per year

F Tannybum... Revis is getting paid what 9 mil this year? That's not what's breaking the bank here. Once we unload the Sanchez and Holmes contracts we'll have room to work with. Why would keeping Revis will prevent us from being able to improve the pass rush or offense? That's what the draft is for. Give him his 15 mil and be done with it, he's the best defensive player in the league.

Youll see, Watchwhathappens to this team without Revis , Revis among other things is also a major leader in the locker room and a sure fire game changer on the field,Why not trade Cromartie instead, Revis has said he wants to be a Jet for life, Trade Cromartie and Holmes instead to make up for the cap problems, Holmes contract is a huge waste of money , Revis is worth every dime

If the Jets can find a buyer, trading Revis is the right move. But I think the issue is going to be finding a buyer that not only has to give up at least a 2nd, that would probably have an escalator clause based on health, but also has to deal with Revis coming off ACL surgery and ensuing contract negotiations.

I borrowed the following from Jason who runs a very good webpage concerning cap issues:

Quote:
Revis’ contract tells me that he should carry a dead money hit of $12 million in 2013, not $9 million as reported, if the Jets were to trade him. That $12 million comes from an $18 million dollar option bonus he received in 2011 that was prorated from 2011 thru 2016. He is scheduled to count for $9 million against what looks to be a somewhat type cap for the team, so they would lose a net of $3 million for the year plus whatever draft pick and/or player salary they get back for him. So its difficult for both sides to make a deal.

If you read the entire article he brings up a good point that trading Revis and replacing him with a top end corner may save the Jets approximately 6 mil. But with Cro still in play, I don't see the Jets needing a top end corner, especially when there are at least 4 starters on the defensive side of the ball that need to be replaced.

It's never easy to part with a guy that was at the top in CB play in the league and is a fan favorite but, you have to balance that against the long term outlook for the organization. The Jets are no longer in "win right now" mode as they were in 2010 and have to start looking at overhauling the roster. Trading Revis and releasing Sanchez after 2013, or if you can find a trade partner for Sanchez (doubtful) will set up 2014 to make a strong move toward the future.

We were 2nd in pass D this year.

Only 2 teams were thrown at less than the Jets were in 2012.

We were 26th in run D

Only 2 teams were run at more than the Jets were in 2012.

We were 8th in overall defense in 2012. From 2009 to 2011 we were 1st, 3rd, and 5th overall.

Revis takes this D to another level.

Once again the NY Jets throw out there trading a good solid productive player and usually we get BS in return. That's been our motto and a big reason we can't take the next step as a franchise. You got a disconnected Owner who was more worried about hanging with Donald Trump and saying to the Media I'm not voting for President Obama than running an Organization. Then turns around and said Tebow was dumped on his lap. He needs to sit back and STFU and let the real guys handle the team. Keep Revis and show some dam Loyalty for once instead he signs Sanchez and Holmes to absurd deals and they haven't earned their keep. But he will probably say that was dumped on him too. Find a way to clear cap space and Keep Revis or at least see how the guy comes back from surgery first , which if you look at Adrian Peterson operations are becoming more of a non issue now because their doing a hell of a job.

Shouldn't this tell you to invest in something else than the pass defense, like dunno, for example the run defense?

If we were still 8th in total D, even though teams rammed the rock up our ass like no tomorrow, think about how much better we coulda been/could be with even a decent rush D.

Having Revis the whole season wouldn't have made any significant difference to our overall D standing or our win/loss-column. Sad but true.

Great post. Hell, Revis wasn't worth what he makes when healthy. Always a holdout and a diva. Trade him John.

Thinking back to the champ bailey/clinton portis trade if a team offers the Jets a top fight RB would you take it?

Portis was around fifth in rushing the year he was traded, so would you take anyof the following for Revis?

Jamaal Charles?
Arian Foster?
Doug Martin?

At least understand the contract. The 7 year deal with a 4 year opt out. His base salary for each of the 4 years was 7.5 in 2010, 7.0 in 2011, 7.5 in 2012 and 6 in 2013...sounds like he's under paid right? Except, he also received a 18.0 Million dollar bonus in 2011, paid up front for cap reasons. along with other bonuses. so spread out that actually means he was averaging around 11.5-12 million per year over that time period, including 2013, although that's the lowest paid year at 10 million with the prorated bonus. And as soon as Revis got his bonus money he was threatening to hold out before the 2012 season but couldn't because that would have voided his 2013 opt out.

At least understand the man has been getting paid and paid well...just bcause his "salary" is only 6 million you have to figure in the 18 million dollar bonus that was paid in 2011 on top of the salaries.

Tell the whole story please, it's true only two teams were passed at less than the Jets, but it's also true that only one team allowed a lower completion percentage than the Jets Defense did. Maybe the reason teams ran so much against the Jets is because the jets are VERY good at preventing completed passes. 53.8% of passes were completed against the Jets defense, the only team better in that regard was Houston at 53.0% To give an idea of how good that number is the #10 team allowed 59.1% of passes to be completed.

But the jets run defense is pourus, but Revis doesn't aide against the run.

I would not trade him straight up for any of those guys. I want a boatload if we trade him and I am pretty sure that regardless of the injury teams will anti up .
