awesome. The Yankees have stripped cashman of all power regarding making offers to anybody. Maybe the end is finally close albeit 10 years too late.

Classic Don. Distort, exaggerate, and inevitably reach the wrong conclusion.

The Yankees haven't "stripped Cashman of all power."

The Yankees have been saying they are serious about are trying to get under the luxury tax threshold by 2014. This has been known... it's not their fault if you didn't believe them. Cashman does what he is asked to do in these cases. He had to ask for the money to go after a couple of players last year. I'm sure it's frustrating for him, especially considering that the biggest albatross of a contract on that team was given to A-Rod by Hank, not Cashman.

Of course, none of this has anything to do with the Steinbrenner's expressing displeasure at Cashman's personnel decisions.

Silly Don.

Youk 1 year for 12 million

Ichiro 2 years for 12-13 million.

I like both the signings. I may be not in the norm, but I am hoping they can trade Granderson. I think they might because of the cap they set for themselves, however the Yanks should only do it if they return is very good.

I would also like to see Nunez become the #1 super utility player on the team while A-rod is out. It;s unlikely.... I love his bat, be he is just so horrendous in the infield. If he can get it together defensively, I feel he could be a very good player.

I'm fine with the way the offseason has gone as well. Lots of 1 year deals for the vets which is perfect. I'd be open to trading Granderson too but we'd need to get a solid OFer out of it.

Gardner-Granderson-Ichiro will be a good defensive outfield. Who's the 4th OF? Ibanez?

Bullpen will be solid even if Soriano doesn't come back.

Guys are getting crazy money this offseason.

Swisher is getting $14 million a season, but it's one of many contracts where star money is going to average players.

$14M is not star money anymore. Revenues are up. Franchises are swimming in cash.

And, really, Swisher isn't valuated as an average player. He was worth about ~4 wins/season by WAR during his time with the Yankees, and the average $/WAR for free agents is somewhere around $4-5 million. $14 million is pretty much exactly what you would expect if you factor in age-related decline. If you expect him to put up similar production to what he did in NY, it's actually a bit of a steal.

Not interested in an argument over whether or not WAR is an accurate predictor of performance of whether Swisher is really a great guy/tool... just saying that $14 million falls right in line with how you would expect a GM to value him. Regardless of whether Cleveland sees a decent ROI on that contract, it was not some crazy illogical spending spree.

Pretty sure they have their starting outfield set with Gardner, Grandy, and Ichiro. I guess that would put Dickerson next, so they will probably pick up a 4th OF.

I think Delmon Young would be a great choice if he can't find work elsewhere. A more realistic option will probably be Rick Ankiel.

It's a good point.

But one hitter is a R and one is a L, so if they go with Dickerson, they'd be looking for a R hitter off the bench to replace Jones.

Scott Hairston is who they are targeting.
