Because the Mets are considered a joke franchise, forever in the shadow of the Yankees, and I think it affects the way individual players are perceived. I think there are also people who won't want to vote for a knuckleballer, because it's not a "real" pitch.

Obviously I hope I'm wrong, but I think there are writers who won't vote for him just because he is a Met.

Yeah, I think some won't vote for him because he plays for a New York team.

I don't think the Mets specifically are a turn off for the writers.

I think Dickey being good with the media will only help him. He must be more accessible than Cueto.

As for Gonzalez, was he even the best pitcher on his staff? I thought he was better than Strasburg up to the All Star break, but then he struggled a bit after the break. Then Strasburg was shut down and Gonzalez has gone past him again.

I thought the All Star Game starter should have been Dickey or Gonzalez, in that order. I think that should be the order for the Cy Young Award too. I would put Cueto 3rd. Then maybe Chapman and Kimbrel after that.

Morning alll...been away too long!

I think Dickey will win as he gives Baseball something it hasn't had for a few years which is a good guy , not on roids or anything else who has taken the field of dreams route to the top. 38 years old , considered AAA at best for much of his career who has mastered a dying craft to bamboozle all comers this year.

Dickey to me is what we all wanted as kids , he is a "cool" guy but also you know deep down he is a good guy and more importantly in this age of asterisks at the side of records...weknow he willnever have one.

You make a good case and I also think that is why he is going to win. He was considered a fringe guy and it really gives baseball something to talk about. I mean nothing against Gonzalez or Kimbrel but they are kind of boring. Like Cakes said Gio probably isn't the best pitcher on his team and Kimbrel is a closer so there are plenty of old school guys that won't vote for him unless he had a Gagne type season.

Will the last one out please turn out the lights!

Oh well its been a year of low expectations, highs we never expected and ineptitude we unfortunately expected and received.

Cannot fault the effort 99% of games , unfortunately the talent levels especially in the bullpen and outfield are frankly pathetic. I can see an off season of trades and rebuilding mode again....a spring training of Bay saying his swing is back etc etc

On the bright side we will probably go into 2013 with a rotation of Dickey / Santana / Niese / Harvey and Gee ...alhough I can see Niese being traded and the 5th spot being Wheeler / Meija or Hefner.

All in all some bright spots in the Minors but the hard facts are without another $10m spent on this roster...we are in for another 12 months of bottom dwelling.

BTW, I'd gladly bet on Dickey being the Cy Young. I'd be surprised if he didn't get it at this point.

Pivotal offseason for the Mets, because I'm not entirely sure Wright and Dickey re-up long-term. And since both are FA's after next year, if they won't re-up you might as well deal them off.

And that's it for the season. 74-88. Meh.

Great year for Dickey, nice comeback second half for Davis, excellent year for Hairston as a part-time player, good signs from Harvey and Niese, and finally a no-hitter. Otherwise, bleech.

Former Mets (and Marlins) bum Heath Bell has been traded to Arizona.

97% of Mets fans polled today (over 1,000,000 of them) said they would not want Miguel Cabrera on the team next year even if the Tigers paid his entire contract and the Mets didn't have to trade away any players to get him.

Mets and Jason Bay agree to part ways. Good start to the off season.

Great line about the Mets seeing a "discount" on Bay and why they chose to pursue him instead of Holliday. Sorry, you don't win championships by signing thrift store players.

I feel like I'm the only Mets fan that doesn't want Melky Cabrera.

Not me. I repeatedly stated he deserved it and would win it. Now I want a cookie.
