Birmingham police say Cabrera had a blood-alcohol level more than three times the legal limit when he was involved in a physical altercation with Rosangel Cabrera early Saturday morning.

Isn't it strange how many playoff series Jeff Weaver has had a huge hand in deciding? For such a marginal pitcher, he's played a huge part in shaping the past decade of baseball--without him the Yankees are probably World Champs in 2003, without him the Cardinals probably don't win the title in 2006.

yeah, that is pretty interesting.

He was terrible in 8.1 IP for the Yankees and Dodgers, and then made five good starts to help St. Louis win the World Series.

Aside from the fact that all this information was incorrect when posted, it looks even worse in hindsight.

He's now 29 (he was 26 when draw made that post, not 24), and he's still leading off. His career OBP is .318, including .309 this season.

He has poor plate discipline and gets on base at a rate well below average for a leadoff hitter. That was true in 2009, when I posted about it, and it's true today.

A's Outfielder Josh Reddick was announced as a winner of the 2012 Gold Glove Award today.

Reddick becomes the first Oakland outfielder to win a Gold Glove since Dwayne Murphy in 1985. The last Athletic player to earn the award was third baseman Eric Chavez in 2006.

Reddick’s 15 assists were the most by an Athletics outfielder in 29 years and tied for third most in Oakland history. He ranked third among American League outfielders in assists and tied for fifth in double plays (3).

There's no one on base when he goes deep (and he doesn't have many non-homer RBI because he's a lousy hitter). It doesn't really get much dumber than to bat a guy with no plate discipline and big power leadoff.

205 career games. .303 OBP. You figure it out.

And if we're going by "one who season", it was .295. He led off for an entire season and got on base 29.5% of the time.

It's not smart to lead off a guy who doesn't get on base. Maybe he'll eventually develop into a guy that gets on base, and then he'll be a good leadoff hitter.

update:

Chris Young is now 29. His career OBP is .317 over 902 games.
