Default 3 Random Thoughts...

1- I can't help but wonder how the talking heads at ESPN and NFL.com will squirm IF the Jets jump out to a good start (5-1, 6-2). The same idiots that INCINERATED the Jets for bringing Tebow in will start saying they KNEW it was a great idea and how Rex is a genius. CAN'T WAIT!

2- I keep reading on TGG that Tanny is an idiot for not building a 'balanced team'. Our D is ok but our O sucks chicken nuggets. Well, my feeling is that a 'balanced team' means you are MEDIOCRE on both sides of the ball with no true team identity. NE is not a 'balanced team'. NE is all Tom Brady and the Gronk. The Sack Exchange was not a balanced team. We were the god damn SACK EXCHANGE!!!!. Having a Defensive minded coach like Rex that creates a TRULY DOMINATING DEFENSE that other teams fear (along with an Offense that's as good as it can be with the leftovers) would be an awesome identity to have. No, not a 'balanced team', but a great team to cheer for.

3- And finally, Tebow. EVERY ONE said Tebow would NEVER be happy as the backup and would push hard to knock Sanchez out and take over destroying our season. But I have to wonder if Tebow is actually starting to enjoy football more now (without the pressure of being the starter). Being the 'back up' sucks but being giving a solid set of plays that can make a big difference in the win-loss column ain't too bad. He may actually enjoy his extended role on the Jets more than struggling as a starter somewhere else. Tebow may actually PREFER not having the stress of the entire season squarely on his shoulder but still have tons of opportunities to play and contribute. Kinda the opposite of what we've been told. We'll find out next year when his contract is up!

That's all. Have at it!

#1 Agree completely. Will be really funny if Mark plays great and the WC is really effective. Will love to hear what the media has to say. Oh, wait, I already know "but it's not sustainable! You can't win championships this way!!"

#2. Agree with the line of thought about "balanced" team, but I think it's possible to have an extremely strong defense AND a RT and good receiving corps.

#3. Absolutely can't agree with this one at all. Have to believe that Tebow has becoming a starter again in his sights and won't settle for being a WC specialist. The kid doesn't run from pressure/responsibility, he thrives on it.
That said, as that is the role that Rex has for him, he will give 1000% to do it the best he can and help the team in any way that he can.

1. Our schedule makes that pretty difficult to accomplish (which means it would be even more astonishing to the media if we do do well). I think more likely we will start of mediocre (around .500) and then dominate the 2nd half. It'll be quite the roller-coaster, though.

2. It's pretty damn hard to have a team with a top 10 in both offense and defense. I'm sure it's happened but do those teams end up winning the Superbowl? I'll have to look into this more. However, as long as we are 12-20 in O and 1-6 in D I think we have a great shot at success.

3. I'm not sure about this one but I hope it is the case. I mean, Tebow is actually getting more coverage now than he did when he was playing (and winning) games in Denver. And it's only the pre-season. This could be a good or bad thing but I think Tebow likes it because it allows him to spread his cheery words and values to all the lands through the wonderful media. Haha we'll see, though.

In 2010, didn't the Jets O get all the way up to 8 in total offense? I remember an article about it on the back page of the Post. Our defense was in the top 3 at the time also.

I know right? I really hope we get off to a strong start despite the tough early schedule just to see the talking head run for the hills or try to say they were all for the Tebow trade! And you KNOW they will.

Anyone who gets mad at Tanny for not building a balanced team is a fucking idiot.

Its very obvious that Rex is a defensive minded coach, who believes in winning games through tough defense. Since Rex is our head coach, and his greatest strength is defense, hes obviously going to cater to his strengths.

I have no doubt that Rex is a far better judgement of defensive talent than offensive talent, so it only makes sense that our defense will continue to be significantly better than our offense for that very reason.

It has nothing to do with "neglecting" offense, but rather if your coach can draft recruit/draft defensive players that have a higher "success rate" than offense, well then you stick to what you know.

Id much rather see guys like Coples/Davis come here with a great chance at succeeding due to the defensive minds here, than us randomly going out and hoping we get lucky with someone like Michael Floyd or whatever

I'm not sure about #3 either...Tebow growing to like his new role. I just thought that Tebow knew he would be in for a shellacking if he landed a starting gig, say on the Titans or Jags. Tebow pulled a ton of great, last second wins out of his ass last season including a last second win against the Jets.

But he got crucified against the Pats in the playoffs so he HAS to wonder about his own ability in the NFL.

Getting a gig with the Jets where he can contribute 'on the field' every Sunday (something NO back up QB gets to do ANYWHERE) plus since he's also the BU QB he gets plenty of coaching to work on his delivery, accuracy, decision making, etc. without the HUGE pressure to win every week.

Just thought he might actually start liking his role here on the Jets. No other team gave him this environment to develop at his own pace AND contribute each week....not to bad a gig really.

you can't be serious about tebow.

one loss has him doubting his own ability? really? he's going to be happier now as a guy with his own "solid set of plays" rather than the starting qb of an nfl team?

CMON SON.

for #2.. this is a offesne QB- driven league. To win the defesne you have to be like the 85 Bears or the 00 Ravens to have any chance, and would still probably lose nowadays. This defesne is pretty good, but not at all dominant. And the offense has very little play-making ability a right tackle would not solve all issues. A huge problem running a stone age ground and pound in todays NFL, especailly when our RBs arent even that good.

RB's need holes to run through. Damien Woody is sorely missed, and has been missed, but has not been replaced with equal quality. That's a major contributing factor to the current situation.

If you guys think Wayne Hunter is the sole cause of the offense being crappy, I dont know what to tell you. The QB is not that good, the WRs, are bad, the RB is medicore. The offensive coordinator is not good. But I guess its great to have a scapegoat... cut Wayne Hunter now!!!!

Hunter has been in the league going on 9 seasons, he has never been a fulltime starter with any team he's been with. Last year the Jets gave him his shot and all he proved is why no other team wanted him as a starter. I think everyone who has watched the games realizes he's a major liability out there. He may not be the only problem, but he's a big part of the problem, and he needs to be replaced immediately or things are going to go south pretty quickly this year.
