Default Mike DeVito stepping his game up

trying to look at the positives...

Is this guy coming along or what? He doesn't get a lot of penetration but he is a big body, stout against the run and always seems to be the first one landing on a fumble.

While Ellis and Douglas are more of a penetrating DE this guy is just a brick wall (did you see when he blocked MJD at full speed with 1 arm!?). Should he be getting more looks at starting at DE for the rest of the season? The organization seems to believe in him since they just gave him a multi-million 3 year deal.

We really need to find a young starter at DE and it would be a blessing if this guy steps up to the task.

PS that would also give the opportunity for Ellis and Douglas to share their playing time and keep them fresher (since they are well over 30).

PPS If next season we have a DL composed of: Jenkins, draft NT, Pouha, DeVito, Douglas/Ellis (the one less worn out by age), draft DE, Pitoitua I'd be very happy.

Good thread.....DeVito has been a beast since Jenks went down. He's earning his paycheque every week.

Kudos and agreed. Cotch also played like a man today for the offense.

Agreed... I would give 8 mill to him and 5 to Edwards... but it's going to be the other way around.

Good post. Devito and Pouha have stepped up their games since Jenk went down. This D-line needs will see significant changes after this season. Ellis in his final year, Douglas for only this year, Jenk inj. 2010 draft is stacked with D-line

DeVito is definitely playing above his pay-grade, to say the least. He's doing well in the line rotations and he's becoming a force against the run. Major credit to Tannenbaum for locking DeVito up for a couple more years.

I think that was more on Pouha...

I think Pouha is very effective as a run stuffing DE... at NT I didn't like him that much. I'd love to have DeVito and Pouha on the DE side where Pace plays, Jenkins and a kid we draft sharing duties at NT and Ellis/Douglas and another rook, with the ability to get more penetration, playing DE on the side where Thomas is (as he is a better run stopper than blitzer).

That would be a great line up!

Agree with you about Pouha, he's much better on the ends than in the middle. I'd like to see Howard Green step it up a bit and take over some NT duties.

Considering DeVito was an UDFA, what a great find for the Jets. May help ease some of the sting from the Gholston draft.

Oh, yes, and he had a very good game as well.

DeVito bumppp

This guy quietly had another very good game. I think we should elevate him to starting status to give him more experience. If he proves he can be a reliable starter that may give us more flexibilty in next year's draft...

PS Beginning of the season my proteges where DeVito, Turner and M. Cole... if they all perform like DeVito is you're all invited to my "I told you so" thread :P

Agree on DeVito 1000%

I wouldn't give Edwards much of anything just yet. I like him, like the way he has played in some games (not NE), and believe the Jets need a threat like BE. However, I also think that the only thing he has proven so far is that the Jets need a WR threat like him on the roster to open up the running game. Unfortunately you have to actually USE that threat once in a while to keep it legitimate, and that requires that he actually catch the fucking football when it hits him square in the chest.

Maybe it had something to do with the D-Line coached being stripped of his duties.

He's been playing well all season long, and played well at the end of the season last year.

DeVito has played well, hats off to him. He plays hard no matter what the situation.
