Bingo! Rick Mirer. I thought he was going to do ok on a stacked team. Kinda like Nacho did years later. Thanks!

Tommy Tupa was another one I liked...our punter/kicker (and former highschool QB) taking snaps! I was hoping for lightning in a bottle. He did pretty good as a punter/QB with no warning!

In the first game of the '99 season where Vinny went down with the ruptured Achilles tendon, Tupa played QB and was playing great in spite of throwing like a girl. The Tuna should have left him in. If he had, I think the Jets win that game and maybe still make the playoffs. Instead, Tuna pulls Tupa for Mirer. Tupa was 6 for 10 for 165 yards with 2 TD passes, but he did fumble resulting in a NE TD. Mirer was 4 for 11 for 28 yards with two interceptions.

Wasn't he drafted as a QB by the Cardinals?

What a trip down memory lane, lol! I confess to being a McElroy believer for a while. I thought he looked pretty good, but I guess I just saw the one good game he had ... whenever that was.
