The Raiders should do what they used to do and just draft the guy with the best 40 yard time.

I believe those are scouts from the old regime, they will be fired after the draft. Dont want any future ex employees leaking the board.

I don’t think there’s a story here. Most organizations restrict the access to the big board and the draft plans to 3-4 people tops. Add in what @101GangGreen101 said and this makes sense.
Gruden making sense is the bigger story

Gruden and Mayock must have stumbled upon the larger design of the NFL. They probably found out that the scouts were filling their big board with more sports entertainers than athletes.

It won't matter. In the end, everyone succumbs to the will of the shield.

yeah but the problem is the loaded up on draft picks and traded away their talent so they can draft a bunch of talent only to not like their scouting department and fire them all before their most important draft.

these things happen all of the time. They already have all of the scouting reports, they dont want scouts to know the big board more than likely.

    Its not an issue.

I get that i'm just saying since they traded away so much to get all these extra picks, it would have made a lot more sense to get a better staff in place before this draft to use them. I get that they have the reports they need, the point was they are using up a draft where they have a lot of picks based on information form people they don't think are good enough to keep. If your scouting staff sucks and you are going to fire them, you don't trade away your best players for draft picks

its a business bro. They won't be here after the draft. The last sentence, I think you are reading a little too much into it. Mayock is pretty damn good at his job.

Is he? Has anyone compared his track record to that of other pundits or the teams themselves?

The funniest part is Gruden and Mayock acting like their evaluations are worth stealing.

Mayock wasn't hired untill after the season ended so replacing the scouting Dept wasn't an option.
Besides, going to last draft, Gruden has his circle of scouts and was at odds with McKenzie's scouts.
More likely he doesn't want any leaks from McKenzie's guys. That being said, most teams have sent their scouts home. It's pretty much standard operating procedure .

Mike Mayock was always going to bring in his own people( scouts- who he's comfortable working with) . Those scouts from previous regime were gone once the draft was over with.
The scouts reports are done , so there is no need for them to leak any of Mayock thought process on prospects.

Someone( scouts) leaking this to Rapaport tells you they were correct.

Last point some people don't know J Gruden didn't value Mckenize( GM at the time) or the scout reports last year.( ignore those scouts recommendations)
Basically J Gruden picked the players he wanted for his offense, and Paul Gunther ( DC) picked the players that fit his defense.

There was a rumor out their ex Chargers GM Aj Smith was going to be joining their front office/ scouting department at some point.( was very good GM that made a lot of great picks for the Chargers). Mayock has a lot of friends around the league , and should have a good idea the scouts he wants to employ.

It will be interesting to see how the Raiders' draft picks will work out.

Their needs were said to be CB, DL, LB, RB, & TE. They took the following players:

    1a - Clelin Farrell, DE

    1b - Josh Jacobs, RB

    1c - Jonathan Abram, S

    2 - Trayvon Mullen, CB

    4a - Maxx Crosby, Edge

    4b - Isaiah Johnson, CB

    4c - Foster Moreau, TE

    5 - Hunter Renfrow, WR

    7 - Quinton Bell, Edge

It certainly looks like they drafted for need taking players at 4 out of 5 positions of need. I wanted the Jets to get Moreau and or Johnson, and would have been OK with Mullen or Renfrow. We'll see how good Mike Mayock is at buying the groceries.

The Raiders drafted more than just for need, but who was the best scheme fit for their defense/ offense. Who complemented the players better they had on their roster.
Sure there was better players available than C Ferrell, but he was the perfect type of De ( power rusher) to complement the speed rusher/ great bend Arden Key . You don't want to have the same type of pass rusher .

I can't believe the parsing in this thread. The Raiders can get fckd into eternity. Who cares?! Oh, and Rich Gannon is a crappy ass baby.
