CB is still a need maybe Brian Calhoun he’s a top target. Have to get a center unless they truly believe in Harrison. Also time to see if we can get something for Darron Lee which is a shame because his speed and anticipation flashed quite a few times last year... maybe we keep him as rotational but Mosely and Williamson are our guys. Any predictions as far as lee goes as a situational speed rusher off the edge? What’s your opinion to do with Lee?

I say they should tangle the bait in the water come draft time, but unless they get a solid strike let him play out the season in a situational role (on the cheap). He finally started to look worthy last season + a dude playing for his next contract tends to have additional motivation..... if he plays bad, adios. If he plays good, hopefully work something out.... or worst case he walks and the JETS actually get a comp pick for once. They wont get his replacement this season for what he's signed for

Can Ziggy stay healthy? He's had real problems with that the last couple of years.

If that's all he's entertaining, then I doubt he'll get a single deal. Not many edge rushers have any speed left by the time they're 34.

I thought Luvu had some good moments and could fill in as rusher specialist. Could he be a potential dark horse edge rusher?

I think with a year under his belt he’s going to surprise some people.

Watched a lot of Washington State and pretty much he and Hercules made every tackle.

I'd make a move for Barrett. I saw where some "expert" said he should be getting about $7.5 a year but that was a few days ago so, since his phone hasn't rung yet, that could probably drop quite a bit. He only made about three last season. He's only 26 but started young and has been pretty productive in part time use but wants to play every down.

Capable pass-rushers at or near their prime are among the most coveted NFL entities, so it stands to reason that Shaquil Barrett earns a pretty penny from his first-career foray into free agency.

Salary cap website Spotrac calculated 26-year-old Barrett's market value at $7.4 million, a baseline number less than two months before the signing period opens. All told, he's projected to sign a four-year, $29.779 million contract, making him the league's 16th-highest-paid outside linebacker.

The deal — at $7.44 million annually — would put Barrett in line with New Orleans' Demario Davis, Seattle's K.J. Wright, Houston's Whitney Mercilus and Detroit's Devon Kennard.

Ansah visiting the Saints, would have to imagine he ends up there unless he’s looking for crazy money. I feel like at this point you should be able to get him for 1 year, $8-10 mil.

Jenkins should also benefit the new defense alignment. He did have 7 sacks. With Luvu, Lee, Jenkins they’ll add a nice depth at LBs. No need to release Lee (at $1.8M) unless there is a good trade for Mac. Picking up a rusher at both draft and/or FA will def stablize and balance the front 7.

He’s also visiting the Bills today. I can see them over paying for him just because they can. This would be the first move Buffalo makes that I really dislike for us

So has Houston. That's why they are available. I thought Ansha was actually a little younger than he is. I was thinking he was 27 but think he's 29.
I'm not in favor of overpaying either.
It's a position we're in a prime position to draft. I'd even explore potential trade options post draft.
There's always next season to add a second pass rusher as well.
As you agreed, we're still a year away.

I wouldn't pay either crazy money, but if they're willing to sign an incentive-laden deal, I'd sign Houston. I like Ansah, but I remember reading something a year or so ago about him that he may actually be older than he says, that where he's from (Ghana) ages are frequently not accurate.

i put this in another thread but here

UPDATE: Free agents still available to fill holes for us as of 03-18-19

CB Darqueze Dennard - 27 years old and PFF rated him as above average in 2018 and the 52nd ranked CB (meaning a low end CB2) which is still an upgrade as right now roberts is our CB2. so him plus poole is a nice upgrade and roberts can play CB2/back-up safety

CB Mo Claiborne - still unsigned and played the last 2 seasons for us on one year deals. could be a cheap plug as well. I'm not sure how comfortable i feel with the CB depth right now and roberts as the CB2. we are an injury away from fielding pool, roberts, and nickerson in the nickel against the pass happy NFL offenses

OLB Justin Houston - he's 30 and far off from the player he was when he got 22 sacks in 2014, but he has gotten 9+ the past 2 years and would immediately be an upgrade at edge rusher for us in 2019 and shouldn't cost much at all. would be best used as a situational rusher to keep him fresh more then an everydown type of player

DE - ziggy ansah - not a great fit for the 3-4 , but is a proven edge rusher when healthy. he's pushing 30 though and health has been a big issue for him, would be nothing more then a situational pass rusher for the jets but if the price is right he could line up as a 4-3 DE when we are in the nickel and dime on passing downs.

OLB - Shane Ray - only 26 and denver let him walk since they have 2 much better edge rushing LBers (von miller and chubb) he's only been average so far but his age and draft status could be a welcome addition to a young jets team. still has potential and did have 8 sacks in 2016 so may be worth the flyer

FS - trey boston - only 26 and coming off a year year deal with the cards. not really starter material but with the lack of depth we have at FS and Maye coming off an injury, could be a good depth signing

That's probably our guy at 3 (if Bosa's gone). Passing on Williams for Allen could end up being like passing on Warren Sapp for Quinton Coples. Williams is the best player in the draft, and if he's there at 3, he's probably our guy.

Mac is slowly running out of cash and probably doesn't want to drop $14M on Houston only to have Bosa sitting there at 3. And we still need DB help.

Mac has his work cut out for him!

Why do you say Williams would be the right pick at 3? We already have someone like him with Leo, and unless we go to a 4-3 - which we're not apparently - having both of the is overkill. And didn't they say Leo was the "best person in the draft"? Sorry, "once burned, twice shy". The only way taking Q makes sense is if they trade Leo IMO. But I'm no expert, so I'm curious why you think this would work.
