It's just a bad call. An unfortunate one, yes, but just a bad call. Also one that will lead to the official responsible for making receiving a serious penalty against them in the evaluation process. His playcalling down there was dumb. He's just as much to blame as the officials for this thing going to OT.
That might have been the WORST non-call in the history of the NFL.. I hope Payton unloads on the refs and their owner pays his fine. This game should be over. Any apology from the league will be meaningless.
He should have argued more, but at the same time, had he done a competent job of playcalling down there, they'd be on their way to the Super Bowl as well. The NFL needs to have some serious discussions about officiating this offseason. With all of the other problems the NFL has that people point to, the officiating is the one that will have a major negative impact on viewership of this league moving forward the next couple of years.
