CJ may have changed the organization structure. Mac's influence reigns. For Now.

It appears Mac has increased his organizational power. So it appears both Gase and Mac will not report to CJ. It's possible Mac reports to CJ and has authority over Gase. The Jets have coveted DC Greg Williams even before the Gase hire.

Now, I am not a huge fan of Mac, but regardless I think this is a huge win and allows CJ to just handle the ownership duties, and not be so much involved in the football decisions. FO-CS chemistry has always been an issue in the past. Gase just wants to coach.

While I do prefer the coach report to the GM, I think the way everyone’s been acting like that’s the only way to be successful is overblown.

I would much rather everyone be on the same page. I want the owner, GM, coach, and QB all on the same page about things with the goal to get better.

I don't see anything in Cimini's write-up indicating that Mac has gained power. I can understand why you'd think that (what other change could there be?), but these are the Jets so you never know.

I said this I’m another thread...this approach is not uncommon in the corporate world.

It will be interesting if Chris Johnson applies this model here and it works and then spreads like wild fire across the NFL.

Having essentially two coaches overseeing each side of the ball decreases things “falling through the cracks” by 50%.

Both of these guys are hot heads, so you leverage Maccagnan’s strength (being even keeled) to talk with the media.

Are you referring to Mac's influence in the coaching search? I agree Mac influenced the Gase hire, but we've known that from the outset. It doesn't mean Mac currently has authority over Gase.

Didn't Chris say the HC and GM will still report to him like before?

All strictly theories at this time, but the Greg Williams hire tells me, he's doing a lot more. He's hiring his coaches too. Bowles brought in his own guys.

I don't think the Johnsons would ever admit that the initial organization structure failed.

Check the original post, we really don't know.

It's also possible Gase genuinely wanted Williams. He may have learned from his time in Miami that he's best working with the offense, and he needs a veteran DC like McVay has in Wade Phillips.

If this a true changing of the guard with Mac having ultimate authority I see this as only positive.

Now we might be able to finally see a unified like-minded group moving in the same direction with the same structural concepts in place.

No power struggles or compromises in drafts or players in free agency.

This would only be for the good, let us hope.

It seems Williams would've been here regardless of who the Jets hired.

If the light bulb has indeed finally come on for the Johnson owned Jets, that can't be viewed as anything but good for the organization. We'll see though how this works outside the lab.

Mac getting more power/control/influence is the opposite of trying to get better.

It depends, there were some critics of Mac who said he was just a glorified scout with GM title always looking at film on players instead of managing the team that was supposed to do that.

I have always believed that a GM should put the blueprint for the team together and hire people to carry it out. Maybe Johnson is allowing Mac to do that now.

It’s definitely better for the team as Mac doesn’t have to do all the legwork and can simple be the guy leading the orchestra instead of trying to play all the instruments himself.

    We will see.

The operative word here is may. I don't expect nor do I trust the Scooby Doo Brothers to stop their meddling.

Yeah, well, maybe the third time's a charm, because for now from where I'm sitting this was essentially handled the same way for the third successive time.

Let’s put it this way. If the reporting structure is newsworthy it means it’s broken and wrong. Hopefully he really does change it and this isn’t just hot air.
