I see where your coming from, but In college assistant contracts tend to allow an “out” if they leave for a head coaching job elsewhere. And normally the head coach would not block that due to it being an advancement opportunity for that assistant. This situation is kind of weird given the timing but it is probably not the first or last time it will happen. At the end of the day Southern Cal is only hurting themselves not letting him interview for a head coaching gig. Other coaches will see that as a negative bc other teams most likely wouldn’t block them.

At the end of the day, even with Kingsbury just joining Southern Cal, not many teams would block him from interviewing for a head coaching opportunity. And your last quote about a contract and going elsewhere, it happens daily/yearly in college football... Nothing new there and that will never change.

    Yeah maybe.
The Jets job is a much better situation to step into though, and he might not even need to move his family.

1st round pick. QB of the future and as much cap space as the NY Jets. Shut down corner and a top 2 NFL edge rusher. Top running back and they drafted a WR last year who is better than any WR on the Jets.

Crappy owners son running the club and GM who can blow a complete draft. Pretty similar situation.

John Harbaugh imo is a much better option than any coach we are currently looking into.
Pair him with Darnold and we'd be competitive for the next decade.
That's well worth a draft pick.

I love Harbaugh. Unless he bought the team there isn't a shot in hell he would be here for 10 years.

Have their been any credible reports released indicating John would leave Balt even if presented with a contract extension?

For John Harbaugh I wouldn't mind giving a draft pick as long as it isn't this year's first. He is well worth it. Pair him with Darnold and we are play off contender every year for the next 15 years.

and living in Arizona might be more appealing to a lot of people than living in NY or North Jersey, for a whole host of reasons.

Not giving up yet on the Rhule HC/Kingsbury OC dream

Gives us a perfect pairing of a CEO type head coach with an innovative young OC that can develop Sam. Throw in McCown on the staff and it’s perfect.

Also gives Kingsbury a chance to get his foot in the door and make his HC resume more viable for the next go-around.

What's the point of having a CEO type HC in the building if the CEO of the organization won't let him be that? A powerless CEO type is a waste of everyone's time.

The question I was responding to had nothing to do with competition.

I was asked how I’d feel if my employer prevented me from going and getting a better higher paying job, not about whether I could go to a competitor.

In my case I have a non-compete so it’s not anathema to me that an employer would prevent someone from taking a better higher paying job.

That the Jets and USC do not directly compete is irrelevant to the question I was responding to.

Since Pete Carroll left town, USC can't get out of their own way. Swann will be just another in a long line of incompetents running things out there. #TroyisDead.
