Although the Rams technically weren't in last place in 2016 (they went 4-12 to the Cards 2-14), they sacked Fisher after that season, hired McVay and proceeded to win the division in 2017. So there's another team we can technically add to the list. It's not impossible for the Jets to pull it off. Starts with the RIGHT coach, much like the Rams.
Of course they could, and some will say they should. But they won't, because you just can't trust this ownership to make the right moves Do you need any other proof than this stupid article being published by the Jets themselves??
The Jets this year won 3 blowout games and one close game. There were 7 other games we could have or maybe should have won. With a second year Sam, a new edge rusher, new improved guard and center and I would expect to win 5 or more of those games we lost. This year we were a much improved team over 2017 despite the record. We had big improvement from Adam's, Lee, Jenkins. Shell and added Herndon and Williamson upgrading both positions. With a healthy Maye back, another year of Darron Lee who was sorely missed the last 4 games, an improved Darnold., improved OL, Edge rusher, better play from T. Johnson, a healthy Maye and some improved weapons on offense and this could be a championship contender.
I didn't realize this was a propoganda article designed to gas up the fanbase for the 2019 season. I guess whomever they do get around to hiring will suddenly become the second coming of McVay, Parcells and Weeb all rolled into one.
This upcoming off season will decide the fate of the Jets for the next 3+ years. If they bring in the right coaching staff, have a decent draft and use the cap space wisely to fill the holes, they could take a very big step forward next year. If the Patriots take a step back, anything is possible in the AFC east.
Goff and Trubisky are the favorable examples, but Wentz, Mahomes, and Watson all came into much better situations than Darnold has, and aren't really comparable. And of course the next McVay or Nagy is exactly what the Jets are hoping for, but it will be a while before anyone knows how that turns out. Personally, I think that there is very little chance that the Jets challenge for the AFC East title next year, but that's why they play the games. And we know that this statistic must fail next year, since Darnold and Allen can't both win division titles in their second year.
Wow... Thanks FJ! That hit was fantastic. Too bad today they would have thrown every flag in the stadium.
The Jets always seem to perform best in the first year with a new HC; the Bills and Dolphins are garbage like the Jets, except without the potential for improvement; and the Pats are good, but they're not what they once were-- so why not.
But where are we going to get a decent O/Line from? FA looks poor for O/Line and we only have so many draft picks - with a poor O/Line draft class to boot [with a few notable exceptions] I can't see if myself, but I sure wish I could
If they hire the right coach, it could happen. McVay, Reich, Nagy, Lynn, Pederson all had success their first years (Lynn didn’t make playoffs but played well after slow start.)
