Well, if the price for significantly upgrading the offense was to "forget the defense" little, I have no problem with that. They need a stud pass rusher; they could use a good CB and improvement in the LB corps, but aside from the pass rusher, the offense needs to be addressed first. Upgrading the offense will take a lot of pressure off the defense. Getting a CS that has a clue will also greatly help the "D". The "O" needs a LT, C, #1 WR, and a feature RB who can also catch passes. Between FA and the draft, much of this is addressed hopefully.
Some stats that shed like on some of the issues. #2 in shortest average length of offensive drives. Not a lot of time for the defense to rest. Our defense actually does have some good stats though. 10th in scoring driver percentage against. 1st in length of time per drive against. 7th in yards per drive against. The problem is the defense is on the field way too much. Not so much that they suck.
1. Bad coaching especially the head coach and defensive coordinator the last 4 years 2. Bad drafting/signings, especially in the secondary. First round BUSTS Kyle Wilson. Calvin Pryor, Dee Miliner. Second round reach Marcus Moye (when you just drafted another safety a round earlier). High 3rd round waste of a pick on Dexter McDougle. Bad signings like Revis, Cromartie, Buster S. and Trumaine Johnson.
The defense is undisciplined and are more about individuals than a unit. The defense can be fixed quickly with someone that knows what they are doing. We get holding calls because Todd allows it.
