No more giving up draft picks especially to get a HC. We already are short valuable 2nd rounder in 2019 and we need every damn premium pick we can get.
I would in a minute. He has a great record in a division with a HOF QB in it that he doesn't have. He's 10 and 5 in the playoffs with a SB with second tier QB. He's getting great production out of a rookie QB who has no business being on the field this year. He has won head to head against BB in the playoffs and he's teams are tough as nails. He's got a winning record in a division with arguably the 2nd most successful NFL Head Coach with a slam dunk HOF QB. He's got a 10 and 5 playoff record. He beat BB in the playoffs with a B QB and won a SB with a B QB. He's 56 years old which is perfect for a 5 to 10 year run. He's signed through next year. We might have to sweeten the pot to get him. I would hate to give up a 1st but I would sure swap 1st with them or give up a 1 for a 2 and 3 for him. He's worth way more than a draft pick and unproven nobody.
Hiring an 'experienced HC' means hiring a HC who failed somewhere else, was fired, and is home waiting for the Jets to call.
I knew DeFillipo was in trouble that one primetime game they had a few weeks ago (vs. the Packers, maybe?) where they said that Zimmer wanted the Vikings to run the ball more and he came out with something like 5 of the first 6 plays were passes or something like that. Every Vikings game I've watched this year, their offense has played far below what their talent level would dictate and, at times, they've looked like a complete disaster on that side of the ball. A competently run organization wouldn't even put this guy's name on the shortlist for their OC, let alone their HC. Of course, this means that his name is right at the top of Woody's list, no doubt. That is, of course, if Woody even decides to fire Bowles. After all, we're one win away from a contract extension.
There are different degrees of failure. The failures you consider and the ones you don't. Let's put it this way. Nobody's going to consider Bowles for a HC job after we can him.
Look, I'm not sponsoring DeFilippo, but all this hate for him while Zimmer is fucking around wanting a 2003 offense is absolute BS. DeFilippo is the escape goat for an over his head QB and ditto to the HC.
It would make me swallow hard, but I would do it if necessary. All successful (SB winning) teams have two things in common: a FQB and a great HC. John Harbaugh is a proven winner. The Jets have their FQB (IMO), and the next big missing piece is a SB-caliber HC, Sign Harbaugh and we're on our way.
As Will Rogers said: "Experience may be the best teacher, but the best way to get experience is to make mistakes".
Can we clarify which first rounder were talking about? Presumably, the Jets would need to cough up the pick before the 2019 draft so Harbaugh could draft his players. I would not give up the 2019 pick. I’d give the 2020 pick.
You still have to run the football. Especially this time of year. Winning teams have a good balance of run / pass plays. Defillippo completely abandoned the run becoming one dimensional.
