Per Manish Mehta: Jets are placing LG James Carpenter to season-ending IR with a shoulder injury Would think his time with the team is done.
Never missed a game until now. I doubt he is back though. We may be looking at 3/5 new lineman next year.
Spencer Long will be the team's LG more than likely next season, gotta upgrade the C position and LT. Also get some depth as well.
That's interesting, moving Long to guard. I think both tackles have been weak but I'll admit I haven't watched as closely the last 2-3 weeks
Yeah its been tough to watch. Long looked better at guard, the announcers were mentioning it throughout the game. I don't know what to make of Shell, I think hes been OK, he got destroyed by Wake though. I think Beachum and the C is where you def start. I doubt we touch the guards right now. Could be wrong tho
They can't run the ball. That much is obvious. To defend these guys on the offensive line though, they might not be as bad as they look. - the way Bates structures his running plays is just plain stupid. They take way too much time in the backfield, by the time the running back even gets to the line the offensive lineman have had to hold their blocks for so long. Bates' style is old school and obsolete. Teams don't play like that anymore. To run the ball you spread the defense out and gash them with quick straight ahead bursts.
on top of the running game being too slow developing, which is a design flaw, Bates has predictability issues. When Tomlinson was playing for example, whenever they would bring him on the field, you could bet strongly that it was going to be a running play because they would use him for that the majority of the time. So you end up having a running game where defenses know a running play is likely coming and its very slow developing. That's shooting yourself in the foot so much. That's asking way too much of your offensive line
I think upgrades at LT and C should make the other 3 OL players better. Plus, Shell is not a must replace IMO.
Am I wrong in believing TB in his infinite wisdom fired Morton because of his unpredictable play calling and not utilizing the running game enough. I tend to believe Morton got fired because he thought TB was incompetent. Three OC under his leadership and the shit got worst with each one. But no changes at DC., where it has been a monumental disgrace getting worst from year to year. Damned, everyone is worried more about Mac in charge of buying groceries than TB, who can't cook for shit. So be it,I welcome change, but I believe with a decent coach we would have won at least three more games this year without changing one person on the field. Dude should have been in front of the unemployment line two years ago.
