Best thing Jackie Slater ever did was clock him, Gastineau should be been in the HOF, but he was to much of a idiot.
Gastineau's celebration doesn't even look that outlandish by modern standards. I've seen Jets nickel backs celebrate like that when a pass flies 10 yards over the receiver's head. At the risk of derailing this thread - I love the shade of green the Jets were playing in there! I hope we get something similar next season. I've got that whole game of DVD somewhere...
"Video unavailable. This video contains content from NFL, who has blocked it from display on this website or application. Watch on Youtube." So what's the point with that?
Gastineau's sack dance was lame . (but also tame by today's standards). Hey guys .... do you remember this? .
Howard Cosell: “Gastineau is an animal”. i recall this quote vividly from early in 99s career but not sure exactly when, from a mnf pregame. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You are correct. My memory must be going. I also thought we played the 2 rookie running backs back to back (Curt Warner and Dickerson) and was wrong there too. The brawl was a lot of fun. Will never forget Jerry Hitman Holmes flailing trying to catch Dickerson
I don't think Holmes will either that is one of Dickerson's most famous if not the # 1 highlight reel in his HOF career....I remember sitting in my grandparents apt watching that as a 12 year old.....do you also remember CBS cameras catching Todd sticking up his middle finger at fans from the sideline who booed the Jets kneeling at the end of regulation ? LOL. He was fined for two separate acts in that game - his participation in the brawl and the finger......
Without starting a new thread, happy 62nd birthday Mark Gastineau. Probably the biggest reason I am a jet fan is the sack dance was hilarious when I was 9. Also, the last 2nd round pick to make the pro bowl as a jet on offense or defense.
Oy, who remembers Brigitte Nielsen showing up in a stretch limo to practice? Ugh. I got to feel sorry for the guy at this point in his life, though. His brain is full of holes. I realize that how he left his former wife and family was really poor, but his ex-wife was really callous after he announced that he has Parkinson's, dementia, and very likely CTE. She said something like, "Good, he deserves it." People should be really careful what they say out loud or even for what they put out into the universe because life has a funny way of sending it right back at you. With a fury.
I remember that . 1988. Then he abruptly retired halfway through the season because she had a cancer scare. He was having an awesome comeback year at that point. The two previous seasons he looked finished.........
Yep, Happy Belated B-Day, Mark. As far as the Sack Dance is concerned, I always wondered why Gastineau wore his tight football pants practically up to his neck. What was up with that. It was mildly disturbing in my 15 year old mind the year he was drafted because I questioned if my Grandpa had a grandson that he never disclosed.
