Let me be first. He exceeded my expectations. After 6 weeks, Jets scored more points than any other team in AFC East so far. If Pats score more than 32 they will pass Jets but that's not the point. Sam is 21 years old. Sam is seeing NFL defenses for the first time but in 6 weeks he has been impressive. What do you guys think of him after 6 weeks? Chime in please.
Exceeding expectations given that he doesn't have the best OL or coaching. But he's every bit the FQB I expected him to be. I'm only holding my breath hoping he does't get hurt.
Far surpassed them. I expected rookie mistakes. I hoped for flashes of brilliance. But I thought I'd get far more of the former, and I've gotten way more of the latter than I dared hope for.
Based on what we saw in the preseason he’s right about where I expected. He’s had some clunkers and some good games mixed in. I’d like to see this game be a launching point for him where his play stays consistent week in and week out. I’d also like to see him convert more in the RZ. One thing thats hard to argue: when Sam plays well, the Jets win.
The OL has been actually good in pass pro iirc, he's showing the Moxy, instincts, intellect and arm talent that led talent evaluators to believe he was arguably the best QB coming out of college.
As happens every year, this coming off-season a number of teams will be looking for that next franchise QB. The Jets will not be among them. Feels great!
Surpassing. It's just incredible he's only 21 years old. He looks so calm and comfortable out there. He's good for at least one mistake per game but at this point in his career that's to be expected. He just needs to keep growing and building on each game - and thus far he's done that about as best as you can ask for.
Exceeding expectations, specifically because of today's game. He looked very calm and confident for the second game in a row, after a pretty bad three game sequence. That says a lot to me.
Hard not to be happy, he's played very well for a rookie 21 yr old. The mistakes are fine and expected for a rookie... but his pocket presense and his vision has been unexpected to me personally. We havent had a young qb like this since Pennington already in his short career. He's absolutely not Pennington yet, but we've had such poor QB picks it's not hard to surpass them.
I would say he has exceeded my expectations but not by that much. I was all in on Sam before draft, ecstatic when he fell to us and firmly believed if the training camp competition was anywhere close he should start. Today he finally faced a defense that was not top tier and you can see how playing those tough defenses early were a blessing in disguise. I think we easily could have scored more today and less fgs but we were ultra conservative in the 4th when in FG range. I was most impressed about his play on 3rd down today mad great decisions and throws. They said on the broadcast that last week it really became his team and huddle as the leader.
And when he plays poorly they lose (he has a QB rating of 109.2 in the three wins and 53.8 in the three losses). That's probably not a recipe for great success in wins and losses with a rookie QB, but it's a great formula if you have a franchise QB.
It looks like he's the one. Something clicked for him in the Jacksonville game. He's getting better and better. Today's game is the first time I can say we saw the franchise QB difference. It felt like the Jets defense was choking away the lead. In years past a lesser Jets QB would've made a mistake or got stopped that would've allowed Luck to put his team ahead. Darnold just kept moving the chains, putting points on the board.
I’ve been pleasantly surprised, seems to be getting more comfortable and improving week to week, I think he will only get better with time and experience, if we put a decent oline around him the sky is the limit Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
