LT above average, grade 64.2 rank 41 LG above average, grade 60.6, rank 40 C average, grade 54.5, rank 28 RG above average, grade 63.4, rank 31 RT above average, grade 66.1 rank 36 for comparison solder (top LT in free agency many of us wanted, got paid 15.5 mil a year) above average, grade 66.6, rank 31 (slightly better then our LT but not by a lot and much more expensive) norwell (top G in free agency many wanted, got paid 13.3mil a year) average, grade 59.4, rank 44 (worse then our 2 cheaper guards) richburg (one of the top centers in free agency, got paid 9.5 mil a year) average, grade 58.5, rank 22 (worse then long who is cheaper as well) sounds like it's not as bad as wel make it out to be and mac was smart with our money. also FWIW the jets run blocking is top 5 in the NFL based on yards before first contact averaged and are middle of the pack in pass blocking (rank 16)
im curious how they would grade out solely in pass protection. Some interesting info here. According to this, we are above avg in pass protections and below avg on run blocking. https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol
you have to pay for the PFF subscription to see how they grade in those details and i don't have one but if someone here does they could post it
PFF also grades Mayfield as one of the best QBs in the league and Darnold as one of the worst. So make of them what you will.
LMAO good point. of course there will always be subjectivity with any of their ratings but it's the best we have sadly
Its actually not a good point since its pure bullshit. They have Mayfield ranked 27th and Darnold ranked 31st.
I bought the lower tier subscription last week or so and forgot to cancel it so another week it is. O-line pass blocking grades for the Jets are as follows. Kelvin Beachum - 75.0 James Carpenter -75.4 Spencer Long - 50.6 Brian Winters - 76.1 Brandon Shell - 66.8
Mayfield is ranked 4th and Darnold 31st. https://www.profootballfocus.com/ne...arting-quarterbacks-in-the-nfl-through-week-5 Though considering the huge discrepancy between their evaluation of Mayfield and everyone else's, and how they were hyping up Mayfield before the draft, I question the integrity of their grading.
thats not pff rankings thats authors ranking by pff performance grades. Which by the way if we are being honest game to game would be pretty damn accurate. PFF's actual rankings have mayfield 27th and darnold 31st https://gyazo.com/a09c00ce126e6358d82c6d065db48127
thanks! better then i thought. long is lacking but the rest are pretty good it seems. if you don't mind how dos beechum compare to solder? solder had a rough night last night
that's QB rating an NFL stat not a PFF one and actually a pretty good indicator. QB rating is probably the best overall stat for judging any position in the NFL and really the most reliable one, of course though it doesn't account for a bad play that gets lucky which is what PFF is supposed to
above average grade, but his grade is 41st (there are 64 total tackles starting) so yeah it looks like it doens't make sense but it's like on a curve.
I guess i don't understand PFF grades. First time ive ever seen them, thanks for sharing. I know are under a quarter in, but i think a good game could skew numbers... i could be wrong. I think, from watching, that oline has been average in pass pro and below average in run... obviously they were great at the run and very solid in pass last game. I just want to see consistent run blocking... even going back to last year, i fail to see a consistent push when blocking the run
Solder 76.2 pass blocking, 56.2 run blocking Beachum 75.0 pass blocking, 56.4 run blocking Solder is the 21st ranked tackle compared to 41 for Beachum.
A good game definitely skews the numbers, particularly when players have a very small number of snaps. Such as Marcus Maye posting a 95 pass rush grade because he rushed the passer twice and got a sack out of it. Or when Darron Lee posted a 90 something pass coverage grade because of the two ints in a single game with no snaps built up. Basically the single game grades are merit based on production in the game but they don't mean much until the stats for the whole year are added up over time. Other notes: Attaochu is our most prolific pass rusher (only played a game or so), Jordan Leggett is our best TE (second least snaps among our TEs), Marcus Maye is better than Jamal Adams (but not in coverage OR run defense, based only on his 2 pass rush snaps which boost his low to mid seventies grade up into the 80s on their own). It's not a perfect system but you can make some educated conclusions when you add the grades, take note of snap count and through the eye test.
I’d like to enjoy perusing these ratings, rankings and discussion, but I too need someone to explain how our individual O-linemen get crap rankings and “above average” grades. Someone man up and explain what the hell is happening here.
