isn't it time for the Jets to hire an offensive minded coach? For years it's always been, "go get the defensive guy," from Herm to Rex to Bowles...and the Jets have continued to play similarly at times. Of course you want to have a good run game, but I'm tired of those games where the head coach pretty much mandates the offense to be so close to the vest that it hinders the offense, especially for a young QB. If this Bowles thing doesn't work out (and it's trending that way) I hope they can find someone who can take this offense to the new age with some GOOD passing concepts, grab someone from the Rams McVay tree, that seems to have that offense playing at a high level, or go to the Chiefs tree via Andy Reid. Then you hire the big time defensive coordinator who can control the defense....
It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past time that the Jets should have hired an offensive-minded HC. IMO the age of the QB doesn't matter as much as the quality of the mind of the HC, his offensive concepts, his ability to handle/develop his QBs and put them in a position to be their best, and his willingness to tailor his favored system to the talents of his players and not some ideal that only works when you have special players with specific skill sets. I suppose that there are probably some DCs or former DCs who know how to handle QBs and understand that as goes his QB, so goes his team, but outside of Belicheat, I haven't seen one recently. So Bowles is only "trending" that he won't work out? I think there's compelling evidence that he isn't working out and won't.
What we really need is a special teams coach. We need someone with experience at getting the most out of fringe talents that don't belong on and NFL roster.
If we hired a competent, offensive-minded HC (read disciplined and aggressive), I believe that he would hire a quality STC and DC because he understood the importance of field position, and he wouldn't accept subpar STs play.
We’re so far behind that by the time we hire an offensive minded coach the league will be trending toward the defensive side again.
Someone with a scorer’s mentality needs to take control. The offensive gameplan against Cleveland should not have surprised anyone & it speaks to a long time issue. The jets struggled to run the ball against Miami & had a few costly mistakes in the passing game.Whats been the M.O of every HC this team has had since Herm in this scenario?Go ultra conservative beyond even playcalling where the offense seems to be tentative & the overall goal seems to favor punting over scoring points. It never works.Neither does this idea of winning w defense.Winning w defense in itself suggests that the offense isnt up to par & its just a failed approach. These defensive coaches go into their shell at the first sign of adversity..and it continues to cost us. Somebody needs to get this team thinking aggressively w a strong emphasis on execution, overcoming(not avoiding) mistakes & capitalizing on opportunities. Field goals & punts should no longer be romanticized.
See sir you are making the mistake of being level-headed. You have to be off the edge and think coaches beat down the door of shitty teams with piss poor talent to be a HC here. Then you have to understand the unleveled thinking process of after signing this amazing coach who has no issues wasting away here that amazing OC/DC's would just mindlessly follow behind. Then understand 100% that because all 3 of these coaches who are amazing could immediately in 2 seasons right the ship with the same players here. You a Jet fan big guy stop thinking with reason and just act like you're a madden coach and go rape free agency Sometimes i wish we could just clean house on these forums it gets painful to even be active here at times
You know that might solve the short term problem, but result in a longer term one, and still won't solve the underlying issue which is that Bowles should bench Mr/ Poop and send a clear message that the party is over for fuck ups and idiots.
What are the top 3-4 OC in the league right now ? Let's just pick the best and or the youngest with leadership skills and go with it. Could Todd Haley re-energize this team? He doesn't seem to put up with a lot of shit.
Dont forget Trumaine “Youre getting a leader” Johnson. Cared more about showing up loudmouth Landry then 3 & out 14 up. Sit them both & play the kids.Cannon & Jones.
Jets also haven't hired a head coach with previous NFL head coaching experience since Bill Parcells (I won't count Belichick). In fact, in their entire history, the only coaches that the Jets have hired that have had previous head coaching experience are Bill Parcells, Rich Kotite, Charley Winner, and Weeb Ewbank.
The problem with a defensive head coach running the show is that they can talk a big game about opening up the offense, and hiring a good OC, etc....but during a close game they continually go to their instincts which is the same old play not to lose philosophy that the jets have been suffering from for years now It’s play close to the vest, run the ball on 2nd and 10, a punt is ok, kick it on 4th and inches, and other bullshit that no longer belongs in today’s NFL Just watch the red zone channel for a day and see how hard it is for defenses against offenses that pressure them and take shots....flags everywhere for even the slightest mistakes that keep drives alive Most teams are actually wayyyy too conservative in general and the analytics back it up
