Jets worked out free agent OT Will Beatty. ESPN originally reported Beatty worked out for the Giants but quickly corrected its mistake. Now 33, Beatty has not made an NFL start since 2014. He has just seven appearances over the past three seasons. It's hard to see how he would make anything better in New York. Beatty was part of a large group of linemen to work out on Tuesday.
Whoever they had isn’t going to be a savior so it doesn’t matter much. I am just wondering why this guy I never heard of got his name in the headline? Also, teams like to hold these types of tryouts after a unit struggles as a motivator to the guys on roster.
For sure its for depth purposes. There are a lot of teams with poor offensive lines right now like the Bills, Seahawks, Texans, Cardinals, and even the Giants despite spending all the money this offseason. The only elite level offensive lines are probably the Cowboys and Eagles imo. There just seems to be a lack of offensive line talent in the league right now.
At least the FO realizes there's a problem with the left side of the oline. Better than the head in the sand approach of years gone by.
We’ve got 4 OL that will (and probably should) hit free agency this off season. Macs shopping at garage sales to try and find a diamond in the rough. At least he’s trying, which means he understands the problem. Too little to late for this season, though.
I think it was Byz who said in Macs first year that Mac likes to shop for olinemen at the Salvation Army. I’m hopeful that he is realizing he needs to change his approach. He has to protect his FQB.
Hes very similar to The Texans philisophically which started w Casserly & has only continued. Very quirky,up & down. They believe in ZBS,their prototype & strongly in cohesion. They rarely will overspend or overdraft UNLESS its their perfect fit.See when they took Duane Brown 15 picks early on everyone’s big board & he was a complete home run.Mac almost did a similar maneuver for Tunsil.Otherwise they go cheap, look for bargains while hoping the scheme & cohesion is their safety net. Right now we’re firmly entrenched in the lean years of this practice. Its not pretty but hopefully alittle better than than the David Carr era.
With all due respect (because I think you offer great analysis), Mac HAS figured out how to build a quality OL and HAS announced as such. You blend an occasional (and he means 1 pick every other year in round 5) low round draft pick on the OL with other teams throw aways for your current OL. Then watch teams like Tampa Bay (last year) and Miami this year absolutely OWN your pathetic OL to the point that the RBs barely make it back to the line of scrimmage . Don't blame Bowles for the scrap heap on the jets OL-- Mikey Mac is the reason. The most ignored man on earth on draft weekend? The jets offensive line coach--because with McCagnan drafting, the OL coach KNOWS no help is coming!
