They sign a questionable addition that has had injury problems that may not contribute over a much needed area in OL? I don't get it.
What sort of competition did he have at the 49ers to not make the roster? I know very little about the 49ers and their squad, so its not a sarcastic question.
Why do I suddenly feel the urge to sneeze? Attaochu! Gesundheit! Drums, cymbal. That was so cheesy even I hated it.
He's really too small to be a rushing type OLB. To me, you continue to hope he can beat his guy to the point of attack. I mean I know this ain't saying much but there's a reason Lee was given more responsibility as the semi leader of the defense. They are giving him more responsibility and not less. Part of it is maybe because Williamson isn't ready to take on that role yet but it is what it is. This is a big year for Lee, for his sake I hope the big uglies in front of him can pave the way so he can wreck havoc in the run game and hope he can contribute as a cover LB.
Does he have talent? Sure. But honestly anything we get out of him is a bonus. He's had trouble staying on the field. Low risk high reward. Still would like Fowler
True but what are they waiting for? They are #6 in line to grab any cuts that fall to them. From the outside it looks as though they have no urgency.
Waiver process is over - everyone who hasn't already been signed is a free agent and can be signed by anyone.
Eh, I know - perhaps there isn't much to be excited about with what was available. But if a team like the Eagles, with their depth at OL, it wouldn't take much to bring in a few.
What is it w Mac & all these guys w injury history? Are the only players willing sign here damaged goods or is it just being cheap?Course he does the same thing in the draft.
Injured players who have shown productivity you are betting they stay healthy. Unknown players you are betting they can play and stay healthy. I am all for drafting and signing players off injuries. You take half the gamble out of the equation
Totally valid question, Leicester Jet. Based on their depth chart, SF plays a 4-3 front and Attaochu was more likely playing one of the 4-3 LB spots. His first 3 seasons in college he played 3-4 OLB and his 4th season he played DE in a 4-3 D. I don't think he had ever played LB in a 4-3 alignment before. He may have been playing DE for the Niners, but only weighed 250 lbs., whereas Armstead weighs 292 lbs., Thomas weighs 280 lbs., Blair weighs 270 lbs., and Marsh weighs 245 lbs. My guess is that he was competing against Marsh and Blair for a spot on the team. SF's DL are: bold denotes starter Solomon Thomas (LDE) Arik Armstead (RDE) Ronald Blair III (2nd team RDE) Cassius Marsh (2nd team LDE) DeForest Buckner (RDT) Earl Mitchell (LDT) Julian Taylor (3rd teamm RDE) Sheldon Day (2nd team RDT) DJ Jones (2nd team LDT) SF's LBs are: Mike - Reuben Foster, Brock Croyle, Fred Warner Will - Malcolm Smith, Elijah Lee Sam - Mark Nzeocha, Sam Nzeocha* *According to the Niners' Depth Chart Nzeocha is so good that he backs himself up.
Little risk for potential reward. It costs us no draft capital to sign a play who has shown some production when healthy. It’s very rare to make key additions this time of year as you know, I’m a bit surprised at the skepticism from taking a flyer on a player at this point from many.
If this move was made in March it’d be a different story. Its just the context of the whole situation. The pass rush is just so deplorable & After alot of hot air w no return the corresponding move is a guy w decent production but notorious for not staying healthy. Not exactly a dependable solution.
He wasn’t available in March. There really were no answers for pass rusher sans taking Chubb at 3 . Met life would still be burning if he did that with darnold sitting there.
