First two preseason games will tell volumes about who the starter will be. Game 3 will be the turning point. Top two guys will get most of the snaps. The wild card is TB in this competition. If he lights it up in pre season all bets are off. But my suspicion is that McCown will not see the field in game 4 in any case. Nor will Darnold with the exception of may be a series or two. But stranger things have happened in pre season under numb nuts Rex Ryan.
Man, it sounds like the Jets are leaking all over the place to prepare the fans/media for Darnold jumping 2 spots on the depth chart. I think it’s actually going to happen.
Wow, let's let him actually throw the ball against somebody trying to hurt him before we anoint him king of the hill.
Why would the Jets do that? Now if he plays well in the preseason it's expected, and if he doesn't they'll look bad.
Starting Darnold game 1 has all the earmarks of a CS desperate for wins Lucky he is mobil and can run for his life I would have preferred a gradual ease in by say game 6
WTF? What coaching staff is not desperate for wins in the NFL? And if you are suggesting that our Oline is so terrible that our QB's would have to "run for his life" I would argue Darnold the most equipped. Or would you rather a 39 yr old vet who moves like quick sand or a dude who hasn't played in 2 years because he stepped on a land mine in a non contact practice?
Well hold on there Astro Boy...don't get me wrong ..after 8 years of no playoffs and 50 years of no SB IAM desperate for wins too..but if you look at C Wentz and J Goff that CS started them off with better protection and slowly And yes I would rather have a39 year old start our season to gauge the rush protection..McGown and TB are no way as important for this team as your future FQB I am thinking long term success not instant gratification here my friend
That was a lukewarm endorsement. Geno was the incumbent and longest tenured jet qb when Bowles arrived
True but he was still the starter 2 days prior to the first preseason game when the incident happened. It was Geno's job to lose. Goes against the Bowles only plays old vets though
Unfortunately, Bowles (or any NFL coach) can't think in terms of "long term success" like you. His actual job is on the line. In my opinion, if Bowles does anything less than 9-7 (maaaaybe 8-8) he's getting shown the door, cause I'm not buying Chris Johnson's edict this year that he's not being judged on wins and losses. It's cliched as fuck, but simply put, Bowles is going to play the QB that gives the Jets the best chance to win, Oline be damned. It's the GMs job to get that Oline better talent, not the head coach.
Was traveling back home all day yesterday. Seems like Teddy trade talks (love that alliteration) are heating up. I have the game DVR’d tomorrow due to wedding obligations but FIOS let’s you watch the DVR on your phone now so I’ll try to sneak in the game.
I'm still in favor of playing McCown the first 4 games, and then re-evaluating. Once you put Darnold in, you cannot take him back out. Have to be absolutely sure he's ready, and I don't like the idea of throwing 3 game plans at him in such a short period of time due to our opening schedule. It's a lot to ask of a vet, let alone a rookie in his first game action.
If that’s true then Vegas seems to think we’ll have a new coach next year. 80-1 Super Bowl odds and all. Here’s the opening odds to be the first NFL head coach fired this season: Hue Jackson +350 Adam Gase +750 Marvin Lewis +1000 Vance Joseph +1000 Dirk Koetter +1200 Jay Gruden +1200 Todd Bowles +1600 Bill O'Brien +2000 Jason Garrett +2500 John Harbaugh +2800 Jon Gruden +2800 Pete Carroll +2800
