I don't know if I want my rookie starting 3 games in like a span of 10ish days. I would much rather see Teddy or McCown those first couple of games. 3 games in 10 days is too much for a rookie QB. How the fuck did the NFL come up with that crap
#Jets are privately so impressed with Sam Darnold's smart pre-snap recognition/adjustments & post-snap decisions. Far from perfect, but they LOVE his capacity to learn from mistakes. That's critical. They'll see more in preseason, but this is moving in right direction #JetsCamp
I am really not a fan of this plan, but I will wait to see him play this preseason before I make my final judgement. Just seems like the Jets are in a big rush. Does sitting him for 1-2 months of the season really ruin the year or his career? In addition, isn’t it very likely he learns things during those 1-2 months of sitting that he wouldn’t of have had the chance to learn before MNF against the Lions? I don’t like it as of today.
His mobility may be the deciding factor if he is made the opening day starter - having to be able to run for his life should the unproven OL break down, it's a scary thought if he gets clobbered regularly.
Speaking of preseason have the Jets announced if Darnold is even playing this Friday given he signed only a little over a week ago. If I remember correctly didn't he struggle at USC last season compared to two years ago. I get that he is the face of the franchise but I hope the Jets don't rush him and put him out there if he isn't ready to face NFL defenses in the regular season.
If he shows that he's ready and outplays his competition in the preseason, then he should start week 1.
After this weekend's forgettable series at Fenway for the Yankees, I could use some optimism from Champ to cheer me up.
