2009 and 2010 teams were special. Rex, before he lost all that weight was lovable. We dominated 2010 season and I truly miss those glory days. I became a Jets fan after 2006 season and after 2009 and 2010 seasons I felt like we were going to win multiple Super Bowls with Rex but unfortunately things didn't go as planned. Now, I am so thirsty for a successful Jets I am praying Darnold is the man. I missed my Jets. I missed Green themed Metlife. I missed tailgating with my Brooklyn mafia. I missed chanting J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS at Metlife. I missed going crazy after each touchdown. God, please smile on the Jets this year just like you smiled on Eagles last year.
2010 was an awesome year, but I thought I was going to have a heart attack each week. I broke an xbox controller after the Packers game when we lost 9-0
I admit, it was exciting, but then Tanny's backloaded contracts all caught up to him and they had a massive exodus of talent over the next couple years and the team's biggest strengths became the biggest weaknesses.
That and Tanny giving away draft picks like candy. 3 players selected in 2009 and 4 in 2010 with none of them really working out hurt us for future seasons.
Wasn't that the game where our punter (name escapes me, Steve something that also punted for Giants) tried to go for it on 4th and 20 something and came up a yard short?
yeah that was the game and you are correct Steve Weatherford. Such a frustrating game cause we really shutdown Aaron Rodgers, just a bunch of BS calls the entire game.
I remember watching the game at a bar and being very frustrated, but not many specifics - other than the aforementioned fake punt. I just went back and looked at the stats of the game. Our D held them to 237 yards of total offense - Rodgers a mere 156 yards in the air. They also only converted 2 -14 third downs. No bad at all! However...….. Of course, per Rex teams, the game was after our bye week, we killed ourselves with penalties and turned the ball over 3 times - to there none.
That was also the game Dustin Keller went out of bounds a yard short on fourth down with no time outs left.
The turnovers were ridiculous, Dustin and Cotch had balls stripped from them, but I swore Cotch was down before Woodson stripped the ball. Refs hated us that day. It was an ugly game for both teams for sure, one of the more frustrating WR performances by the Jets.
I was at this game. The offensive performance was very similar to week 1 against baltimore.Theyd move the ball but never made a big play, made too many mistakes & refs def hated them. Santonio Holmes also dropped a wide open touchdown right down the seam.
Cotchery dropped a wide open TD as well. I was at that game too. Very frustrating, especially those 2 gift picks that were taken from receivers on the ground. IIRC the Weatherford 4th and 20 was because the snap was bobbled or off and he had no choice.
To this day, I wonder what could've been had our D stopped the Steelers on 3rd down late in the AFCC game. The Jets were moving the ball with ease at that point IIRC.
The snap could have been off, but I do remember listening to an interview with Weatherford after the game and him taking responsibility for the play. Westhoff didn't make the call, but apparently Weatherford always had the green light to run if he saw incorrect coverage pre snap. Steve was a really good athlete, but admitted he under estimated how far it was to the sticks.
What a bone-headed play. That's when we threw up our hands in disgust and exited stage left. He didn't fight for the marker. He just went oob right before it for reason I can fathom. What the frig. He got booed for it, too. I didn't dislike Keller as a player and he had his moments, but people were just staring at each other after that play as if to say, "What am I DOING here?! I believe Keller also did it against the Ravens in the Jets first game in The New Dump (night game). You know, the game where Kris Jenkins tore his ACL again about three plays in? Yeah, that game. EDIT: Oops, some others also mentioned Baltimore. I wasn't talking about that game initially. The Packers game in 2010 on of all days, my favorite day of the year: Halloween. Never before has a Baby Ruth tasted like sawdust.
